Is it better form to adopt a dog or buy one from a breeder?
I have adopted rescue animals all of my life. However, having crossed the great divide of age 60, my local rescue groups will no longer let me adopt a dog. I am now âtoo oldâ to take a dog or cat that will probably be euthanized. Another group turned me down for a senior dog because I donât have a fenced-in yard. Some animal rescuers are a bit looney and wonât allow people to have animals who have kids, or small yards, or age â you name it. So, I bought this love from a breeder. He filled a puppy-sized hole in my heart. This is Truffles.
And for those who keep mentioning shelters, I searched them for 9 months over a three-state area. In my county, the shelter emptied out with COVID home workers adopting pets. There were no dogs available. In addition, they took a bunch of the desirable dogs up North to sell and left the pit bulls here. I have nothing against pit bulls, they are just too strong for me to walk. I had NO choice if I wanted a dog. So, please no more adopt, donât shop comments. I have adopted every animal I previously owned from shelters, feral populations or dumpers. It just doesnât always work.
