The giant puppet eats more than a tourist stumbling out of a Union Square bagel shop. This production at the DR2 Theatre manages to stretch a children’s book into a full stage performance without losing the plot or the audience’s patience. It is fifty-five minutes of pure, colorful gluttony.

The creative team understands the assignment perfectly. They keep the staging brisk and the puppets massive enough to command the small room. You are not going to be bored, and your kid will not have time to launch a mid-show tantrum. It is a win for the parents who want a theater hit without the usual three-hour marathon.

Skip this if you hate children or quiet, focused storytelling. Everyone else should head to East 15th Street before November 8. Feed the beast and get out before the subway commute turns sour.

The lead character eats through an entire orchard before turning into a butterfly. It is the most gluttonous display of gluttony you will find in Union Square. The DR2 Theatre is small enough that you can actually see the puppets from the back row.

This is a production of Eric Carle’s books that clocks in under an hour. It hits the exact attention span of a toddler and the patience limit of a parent. Do not bring a snack into the room unless you want to share it with every kid in the front row. It is worth the ticket price for the quiet alone.

If you have a child who needs to be occupied for fifty-five minutes, buy the ticket. Otherwise, let the parents have the room. It runs through November 8.

You are sitting next to a Golden Retriever in a Broadway theater. The Triad is selling seats for your pet to join you for an evening of monologues written by a former Daily Show writer. David Javerbaum thinks your dog finds you a confusing but well-meaning idiot.

The premise is absurd. Bringing a canine into a West 72nd Street venue is a logistical nightmare waiting to happen. Yet the prospect of watching a room full of Manhattan dogs react to theater is too chaotic to pass up.

They are selling seats for your golden retriever at The Triad. David Javerbaum is handing the microphone to the pets, assuming they view us as slightly dim roommates who exist only to open cans and hold leashes. It is a cynical take on the domestic dynamic, written by a man with enough hardware from The Daily Show to know how to land a joke.

Expect the typical NYC theater claustrophobia, but with more shedding. The room on West 72nd Street is small enough that your dog might actually be able to critique the blocking. Previews start October 13. The run closes November 29. Do not be the person who brings a dog that cannot handle a monologue.

The man is betting his entire Off-Broadway run on the audience’s collective urge to be liked. Drew Michael spent a decade making a career out of saying the one thing the room wanted to leave buried. Now he is forcing us into a small house to watch him dismantle that desire.

He famously filmed his last specials without an audience in the room because he hates the usual comic-crowd comfort loop. At SoHo Playhouse, he has nowhere to hide. There are only 199 seats at 15 Vandam Street. If you go, expect zero safety nets and seventy-five minutes of singular, prickly focus.

The lead comic is performing a solo show explicitly about the desperate need to be liked while being fundamentally unlikable. Drew Michael has built a career on making rooms uncomfortable, and he is bringing that energy to a 199-seat box in SoHo. Expect the usual silence to be weaponized.

This is the guy who filmed his last special with zero audience in the frame just to prove a point. He is taking over the SoHo Playhouse for a limited run of 22 performances starting October 24 and ending November 22. It is just one guy and a mic in a room where you cannot escape the eye contact.

The theater is on Vandam Street. The run is short and the house is small. Go if you want to feel exposed.

Six strangers are trapped in a waiting room because their doctor is stuck in air traffic. It is the kind of social nightmare that would make a Midtown commuter walk into the East River.

Repertorio Español is bringing this comedy to the Gramercy Arts Theatre starting October 1. The play focuses on the humanity behind the quirks rather than turning the audience into bullies. It runs in Spanish with English subtitles, so you can actually follow the dialogue while you watch these characters lose their minds.

The production occupies the space through April 11. It is a tight, funny look at how we all manage our own internal chaos. Catch it before the run closes.
