Man dies in hospital after house fire in North York
A man died in hospital Saturday morning after a two-alarm house fire in North York, first responders said. Toronto Fire Service district chief Stephan Powell said firefighters responded to a two-alarm house fire at 14 Calais Ave., near Downs view Park, just before 7:30 a.m. The home’s lone occupant was a man in his 60s. Powell said the fire was put out quickly and Toronto paramedics took the man to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Toronto police said later confirmed he had died. Fire chief Matthew Peg said on Twitter firefighters and police will be investigating the cause of the fire. Powell added the city’s extreme heat meant additional responders went to the scene to help the firefighters recover.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has been praised by the watchdog for improving its performance.
The report, by Her Majesty's Inspectorate, said it had become better at protecting the public since its last inspection.
Response times were faster than expected, but the organization has work to do to cut the number of false alarms crews have been called to, it said.
The county's chief fire officer said he was "extremely pleased" at the verdict.
Wendy Williams, of HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services, said it was "pleasing to see that the service has made progress"

A three-alarm fire in a Roxbury apartment building early Wednesday displaced 50 people, the Boston Fire Department said. BOSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT
A fire on the roof of a five-story Roxbury apartment building has displaced 50 people along with their pets, the Boston Fire Department said Wednesday.
Firefighters responded to the building on Northampton Street late Tuesday and discovered heavy fire already burning on the rooftop, the department wrote on its official Twitter account.
All of the residents safely evacuated, but the three-alarm fire has displaced the estimated 50 people along with multiple pets, the department said.

A Rockford firefighter was injured while fighting a fire Saturday morning in the 200 block of Stanley Street.

According to the Rockford Fire Department, the firefighter suffered a minor injury as crews were fighting a blaze at a two-story residence around 3:30 a.m. There was no one inside when firefighters arrived, and the owner has not yet been located, officials said.

The damage was called “extensive” and the building is considered a total loss. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
