Engraved official letter form partially engraved on bluish laid paper, manuscript annotations on both sides of one sheet of paper, with the official red wax seal of the Département de Loches with “Marianne,” the national personification of Liberty, in Roman-style clothing, standing above “République Françoise.” Chosen deliberately to signify a break with the old royal regime of kings and promote republican ideology, Marianne had become the female allegory of the First French Republic by the date of this Extract from the register of Deliberations of the Directory of the District of Loches, July 2, 1793. Written hastily and in a rough hand, this is a legal record of a criminal proceeding that records indictments that were delivered by Citizen Bomeau to the district administrator and commissioner about the measurements of quantities of grain and their destination during the harvest of 1792.

America's first drag queen governor, Edward Hyde, Viscount Cornbury, Queen Anne's first cousin, affirms the witness to the witnesses of Thomas Burroughs signing his will in 1703.

"New York the second day of September 1703 there appeared before Edward Viscount Cornbury hereto Ext Gentt & Governor in Chief of the Provinces of New York New Jersey &c John Sheppard and Bart Lewis and made oath upon the Holy Evangelist that they did see the Testator Thomas Burroughs sign seal and Publish the above written Testament as his last will and testament and at the time of its publication thereof he was of Sound and perfect memory to ye best of their knowledge & understanding and at the same time they saw William Huddleston sign ye will as a witness thereto Cornbury.”

A tinsel print mounted in a finished watercolor landscape depicting Sarah Egerton as Helen Macgregor in Rob Roy. A hand-colored etching based on Isaac Pocock’s operatic drama, Rob Roy Macgregor, or Auld Land Syne, based on Walter Scott’s novel, Rob Roy 1817. The etched figure of Mrs. Egerton in ink on paper was first cut out in silhouette, then treated as part of a collage, dressed in fine silk fabric, then pasted onto Whatman watercolour board.
