10 years this week since our 2016 staff visit to Otto Penzler’s library, probably the greatest mystery collection of first editions ever compiled, acquired over 40 years and sold at auction in 2020.

Now that the house has been sold and the auctions have largely concluded, I wonder where all the books ended up…

If you want to learn more about the collection, pick up a copy of MYSTERIOUS OBSESSION, which contains Otto’s reminiscences of acquiring key volumes.

Cover reveal! Next April, Mysterious Press will publish THE TWISTED WOMEN’S BOOK CLUB, featuring a cycle of stories by the world’s greatest thriller writers centered on one deadly book club. Coming 4/20/2027!

Full descriptions below:

Dr. Margaret Richter has it all. She’s rich, thanks to her bestselling self-help books. She has a beautiful home in Cape Cod overlooking the beach. And she has a monthly book club that everyone is dying to get invited to.

Literally.

Because behind the crystal wine glasses, the fine linens, and the catered hors d’oeuvres lies a tangled web of secrets, of deceit, of murder. No member of the book club is innocent—and many are guilty. And the person with the most to hide is Margaret Richter herself.

Commissioned by International Thriller Writers and edited and introduced by bestselling author Jennifer Weiner, The Twisted Women’s Book Club brings the biggest names in the genre together for some brilliantly creative collaborative storytelling.

Super gratifying to see two new espionage thrillers from Mysterious Press praised in a recent column from Adam LeBor at Financial Times:

He calls Charles Cumming’s ICARUS 17 “a hefty, satisfying read” that “takes the genre to another level.”

Of Connor Martin’s THE SILVER FISH, he notes that “Martin’s strong characterisation and notably vivid scene-setting in the bars and back streets of Accra make for an impressive debut.”

Both books are available now! Check stories for a link to the full review
