To all Joyceans: obviously everyone, Leopold Bloom was an “Everyman”/ A happy bloomin “Bloomsday”!
NB ( that’s “nota bene “, Latin for “note well”, so, why don’t we use:
NW instead? Arrogance.
Back to the point, Bloomsday Books forgives all who have forgotten this important date, and, if you’re an Everyman( woman or child or pet) it probably comprises almost EVERYBODY .....................
Yes, yes I know, sort of Elitist,
it ain’t a dirty word

PS-(post scritum) stay tuned for
important news on next years Bloomsday! Big surprise for most, except who in the past helped ( you know you are and will be soliciting you anon)

PPS-(post, post scritum); any errors in this post, grammatical or otherwise, are unintentional , or maybe they’re not.

Philip Roth, thank you for an opus that will live forever. And, that you were and will remain in our life.

We, the collective we, both of us at Bloomsday Books suggest everyone follow S. Beckett’s mantra. “I can’t go on, I’ll go on”. When asked what kept him going on, he replied “ I read Dante, watch soccer, and fart” - sadly, most people only do the last!

For those who did not read a past recommendation “The better angels of our nature” by Steven Pinker, do so. You will thank yourself.
I’ve just finished reading a galley of his new work, out next week, “Enlightenment Now: The Case for, Reason, Science and Humanism”
Brilliant!!! And, so, so timely.
A Bloomsday “Must Read” - I mean it!!!! ( I also like the exclamation point, second only to the comma).

As an addendum:
Asked what’s wrong with the world, G.K. Chesterton said, “I am”

Here’s to the end of victim hood

Obviously, the “club” of authors who have NOT won the Nobel prize for literature in the past 100 years is much more prestigious than those who have. Further reflections soon, in the meantime would entertain your thoughts,

"The Words" by Jean Paul Sartre-if you haven't read it, do! If you can in French "les Mots", even better.

Bloomsday does not engage in political opinions. With that in mind, we ask you to reflect (in depth) on the word: " Hubris"

Seems we've been going way back, to the essentials list: Aristotle "Poetics" + Tolstoy "What is Art" - yes there are many important works on "Aesthetics" ( we mentioned Oscar Wilde, will add Clive Bell etc. But A & T are all you really need, not daunting, easy reads. Available at Bloomsday , will enrich your life (unless you've already read- then re-read)!

Coming soon, the 10th volume of the Library Of America publication of Philip Roth opus - the only time this has been done for a living writer! Bloomsday is exclusively privileged to have signed editions of these and individual publications of his 31 works (paperback and hardcover). Contact for your request, price is $5000.00 to FREE if you're an avid NEEDY reader.

We've been mostly in the past- most recent - Victorian writers and post-re-read Oscar Wilde - his non-fiction work " the critic as artist" etc. , so of the moment!
Fascinated by Jewish Brazilian writer ( Michael Loeb) novella "Diary of the Fall" - Lyrical!!
Will send copies to all who request at cost + postage . How much is that? You ask. I haven't the foggiest idea at the moment, but more than $1.00 , less than $100.00

I'm sure some will think I left someone out. I haven't . The list would just be too long. Such plenitude !
