Bookbook at 266 Bleecker Street will be closing its doors in May. After 35 years, it’s time for a road trip.
In 1984, we opened our first bookstore, Biography Bookshop at 400 Bleecker St. in what was a historic West Village neighborhood with a strong sense of community. We were welcomed with open arms and our ties to the area strengthened over the ensuing 35 years. In 2009, commercial realities of the gentrifying community led to a relocation to an equally beloved home on Bleecker St. between Cornelia and Jones St., as well as our new name, bookbook.
We were thrilled to continue on one the most vibrant long-standing “mom and pop” business streets in the city. Our loyal clientele from the West Village was joined by a wider array of people from all over. Further commercial changes in the neighborhood, alas have forced us to finally end this phase of our lives as booksellers.
We want to thank you (and your dogs) for being part of our community for more than three decades. And we want to thank our employees from over the years who have become part of our close circle of friends.
Beginning April 15th, we will begin discounting everything in the store 20-30%.
Our last day of business will be May 15, 2019. While we are closing the store, you can’t get rid of us that fast. On most Saturdays, we will be at the Abingdon Sq. Farmers Market, on the corner of Hudson and 12th Streets, with tables full of interesting books and a great selection of greeting cards. Periodically, we also plan on having tables by the pickle stand on Carmine Street, between 6th Avenue and Bleecker St. So stop by for some pickles, prose, and plentiful conversation. No matter where we set up shop, we promise to have dog treats.
We will let you know where and when we will be selling on the street and other events via email and social media. Please follow us on social media and join our email list at: https://bit.ly/2I62HyD.
Keep supporting our independent bookstore friends in Greenwich Village at Unoppressive Non-imperialist Bargain Books, Three Lives & Company, Mercer Street Books, and Idlewild.
