a client approached me with two gorgeous wood vases that she owned, wanting artful paper flower bouquets to brighten her home. natural flowers wouldn’t work because they could damage the wood, and we knew right away that crepe paper flowers would fit the bill.
i started the design process by photographing and measuring the vases to figure out how many flowers, what kind, and how the two could complement each other. next, i sketched a few arrangements and played around with sample stems. we met afterward to see what needed to be tweaked or added. once i got final sign off (hooray!), i went straight into production mode. i cut each petal by hand, shaded them with pastels to add a delicate touch of color and variety, then carefully glued each flower together and arranged them.
in just a few short weeks, the beautiful vases had a sculptural, airy piece of paper artwork filling them. it was a fun and challenging project, and i can’t wait to tackle the next one. dm or visit happihello.com to get started!
