Remember this beauty? Click through to see the process of restoration of the lace trim & repurposing it onto 2 new veils for the bride~
1) I carefully trim the lace edge and motif shapes. Took about 1-2 hours as it was machine stitched to tulle and I have to be very careful/precise as I remove it
2) Lace has yellowed over time so I soak it in my special solution to get the color back to original state (have to wait 5-6 hours). Last photo shows color difference after soaking vs original dress.
3) Iron the trim & clean up the edges. I cut the two new veils. I pin the lace trim to the edge, and shape it around the curves. That means trimming into the lace & re-shaping it so it will lay flat (2 hours)
4) I stitch the lace to the veil edge at the top & bottom of the lace edges. I trim out lace motifs to make the beginnings by the shoulder look more romantic and soft. The fingertip length veil took about 2 hours to sew, the waltz length veil 3 hours.
5) I attach the combs and trim around the scallop shapes of the veil edges. Then I steam the veils and inspect them to make sure everything looks good. (1 hr)
A lot of time and precision goes into these pieces (about 10-11 hours of work for this project). I love how they turn out and are a fun challenge to me. I am grateful to have so many clients that trust me to do this for them
