Designed and edited by Satoshi Machiguchi, founder of Match and Company and one of Japan’s most influential book designers. Since the 1990s, Machiguchi has shaped the visual language of the contemporary photobook through his collaborations with photographers including Daido Moriyama, while also publishing acclaimed titles under the imprints M, M/Light, and MMM.

1000 is a remarkable 1,024-page volume reproducing 38 landmark postwar photobooks, featuring works by Hiroshi Hamaya, William Klein, Yasuhiro Ishimoto, Robert Frank, and many others. An extraordinary reference, artist’s book, and tribute to the photobook as a medium.

This marks my fifth solo exhibition at the gallery since my first presentation in Japan in 2022. Held annually in July, these exhibitions have become an ongoing tradition.

Weekend brings together photographs made between 2025 and 2026 across New York, New Jersey, Montreal, and Japan.

Although separated by the Pacific Ocean, the United States and Japan remain closely connected through the immediacy of mass media and the internet. As contemporaries living within the same moment, we are all confronted with the question of how to inhabit the present.

Through Sira’s gaze, this work offers a space to reflect on our own “weekends.”

This new edition introduces a subtle shift rather than a revision. Red typography replaces the original palette, and a small number of new portraits enter the sequence.
