Magical Metal

Magical Metal is a New Music Festival presented by NYU Composers

The NYU GSAS Department of Music in collaboration with the student organization First Performance Club is presenting a Festival of New Music on the Spring of 2015. The festival includes six concerts involving professional new music ensembles where more than 16 New Works by NYU composers will be premiered, alongside with lectures and masterclasses by invited composers Steve Takasugi and Pierluigi Billone, workshops with ensembles and more.

Our website is down, BUT that doesn't affect our energies! Here is what we are up to in the next 6 weeks!

March 20, 10am, Waverly Building room 365-- Menglin Gao, countertenor, theorbist and recorder player, is going to give a talk on Baroque music & dance practice, and its relevance to new music practice.

March 28, 8pm, Silver Building room 220-- Our visiting artists series will present pianist Thomas Rosenkranz. Program includes Ablinger, J.S. Bach, Gibbons, Ligeti, Prins, Webern and our own Michael Rose.

March 29, 8pm, DiMenna Center-- Momenta Quartet is going to present Mozart Piano Concerto KV.414, paired with its deconstructed re-imagination by our Ioannis Angelakis!

March 31, 8pm, Silver Building room 220-- Heterodyne Trio (T.J. Borden, Paul Hembree and James Bean) is presenting a program of cello and electronics. Works by Ferneyhough, Bean, Hembree and Lyle.

April 6, 8pm, DiMenna Center -- JACK Quartet plays NYU composers! Works by Wang Jue, Michael Rose, Viola Yip and Bernardo Barros.

April 7, 8pm, DiMenna Center-- Talea Ensemble plays NYU composers! Works by Vasiliki Krimitza, Joel Rust, Ioannis Angelakis and Fede Camara Halac.

April 27, 6pm, NYU Casa Italiana-- our last visiting artists series of the year will feature Marco Fusi, who will give a North American premiere of Pierluigi Billone's violin piece Equilibrio.Cerchio and premiere of two new pieces for viola d'amore by Viola Yip and Joel Rust!

!!! NYU is closed today due to the winter storm, our scheduled Emily Howard's presentation and Jack Adler-McKean's tuba recital are postponed to next Tuesday, Feb 14, at the following times:

This coming two weeks are going to be excitedly busy! Come join our new music adventure with our international musician friends who are visiting NYC! Everyone is invited!

(1) Thursday, Feb 9, 4pm, we have Emily Howard from Manchester share her music with us, including her collaboration with Berlin-based British tubist Jack Adler-Mckean.
(2) Same day, 8pm, Jack is going to give a rare concert with his MICROTONAL tuba with electronics. Works by Steven Daverson, Dmitri Kourliandski, Emily Howard, Evan Johnson and Georges Aperghis.
(3) Friday, Feb 10, 3pm, American composer Judy Klein is going to share her electroacoustic works and compositional approaches.
(4) The following Thursday, Feb 16, Belgian flutist Ine Vanoeveren is going share a massive solo concert as part of our Visiting Artists Series. Works by Brian Ferneyhough, Robert Dick, Cesare Saldicco, James Bean, Fernanda Navarro and Bernardo Barros.
