During the early to mid 1800’s, very often constellations were used to navigate the Underground Railroad to travel from the south to the north. We were hired to recreate this representation of the sky, on the floor at the Cooper Hewitt - Smithsonian Design Museum. Using the existing architecture and strategically placing constellations through layout made this project more interesting.

Our team delivered full rolls to the site, could not use any dollies for the delivery, the material could not be adhered or nailed to the wood substrate, we also could not use any traditional methods of seaming with irons or adhesives, and could not adhere transitions to the floor.

This project required extensive planning and creating techniques that would allow for a successful installation making the room safe, but also maintaining the integrity and conforming to the museums requirements.

This is a great event, and we have a lot of fun planning and getting together with friends to support families and organizations that really can use the help.

Working in existing areas with existing finishes can be very challenging especially when you are attempting to meet different finished heights of existing adjoining materials. In this case, you cannot truly establish a zero point to pour from. Most projects are “pin and pour”, not this project. This required a lot of preparation and thought to achieve. Project is off to a great start.

Genesis Flooring Systems Holiday Party! Very proud to celebrate the year with this team. We had a great holiday lunch at Keens Steakhouse, with tons of laughs and great conversation.
