BLACK PEOPLE DON’T HANG THEMSELVES FROM TREES.
I spent many hours researching & creating this presentation. It has been extremely heavy on my heart going through these cases & I will be sharing a longer 5 minute video on my Facebook & YouTube accounts that dives deeper into it all.
Black people do not hang themselves from trees.
When a Black person is found hanging from a tree, a bridge, church property, or another unexpected location, we cannot afford to automatically dismiss the circumstances, label it a su***de, and move on.
In this presentation, I dive into the history of racial terror lynchings, JULIAN’s A Crimson Record, modern-day lynching cases, the patterns identified across seven Southern states, and the families who continue to demand answers.
I also discuss Dr. Staci Turner, Mississippi’s Chief Medical Examiner, and the growing criticism surrounding her office’s handling of several highly disputed deaths, including calls from some families and advocates for greater accountability and, in some cases, for her removal or loss of her medical license.
This isn’t about declaring every Black person found hanging a victim of lynching. It’s about demanding thorough investigations, transparency, independent review when necessary, and justice wherever the evidence leads.
Behind every case is severe grief & several unanswered questions. These families are still waiting for the truth.
