Mining the archive for Fall inspiration. These shots were taken back in 2017 by the insanely talented ray spears is rayneutron in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Andrew Chen generously linked us up and the rest was history. These shots were actually part of a larger Wooden Sleepers look book, something that was not really done by vintage shops at the time. I wanted to plant our flag, share my vision for the Wooden Sleepers look. I created looks from the shop inventory, which was an extension of my own personal style and wardrobe, mixing military, workwear, Ivy, and outdoors. Layering the longer M-51 fishtail under a cowichan sweater was counter intuitive, but I like the result. Probably influenced by EG. At the time, a high/low pairing of thrashed Carhartt double knees and Alden Norwegian split toes shoes seemed novel. I stand by it. Would probably wear this today without thinking twice. Anyway, save and apply it to your own style if you like.✌🏼

5 years ago I started taking private appointments at my studio in the quiet village of Tuckahoe. I got the space during Covid, after closing my Brooklyn shop. It was meant to be temporary at first, a place to regroup and figure out what was next for Wooden Sleepers. Turns out, I really liked being able to walk to work, see my wife and kids whenever I want, and having a more controlled environment to run the business. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my retail shop. It was best in class and a dream realized, but after 6 years grinding it out in Red Hook, I was ready for a change. This space has allowed me some breathing room. I consider the past 5-6 years the most sane era for the brand. I still get to service local clientele as well as visitors from abroad, in a much more relaxed and personal way. Starting this September, Wooden Sleepers will reopen for private shopping appointments. About 90% of our inventory is offline, so a visit is definitely worthwhile. If you’re heading upstate this Fall or just looking for a quick jaunt from the city, drop me a line and we’ll set something up. ✌🏼

I’ve had a few of these micro Boat and Totes in rotation for years. Perfect desktop accessories. I use mine for pens, business cards, or as a catch all for keys, wallet, etc.

Throwback to September 2025 Alfargo’s Marketplace with Daiki Suzuki from Engineered Garments Official and Nick Andry from Alfargo’s. When I was first starting Wooden Sleepers in 2010, EG was a brand I deeply admired. They referenced everything I loved - vintage military, ivy, workwear, and outdoors - but did so through their own lens. Most everything was and still is made here in NYC. I believe EG are one of the greatest brands of the 21st century. They seem to operate in their own world, not following trends. Fiercely independent and unique in every way. If you want a master class in styling and layering, just peruse any EG look book from the past 25 years. They are unrivaled. It was an honor to meet Daiki after so many years following the brand. To welcome him into the Wooden Sleepers booth at Alfargo’s was a surreal and full circle moment. Thanks to Zane Gan for capturing this special moment and to Nick for making it happen.
