From hand-dyed silk petals to a finished flower 🌸

A little look at the assembly process in our NYC factory. These petals are hand-dyed in shades of purple and burgundy, then shaped and assembled by hand before the finished flower is hung to dry.

First we cut the petals with one of our dies, then shape them using an antique flower mold. Two machines, two very satisfying sounds. 😂

For over 110 years, M&S Schmalberg has been making fabric flowers by hand in New York City’s Garment District.

We still use many of the same tools, molds, and techniques that have been part of the craft for generations. Cutting, pressing, dyeing, shaping and assembling each flower right here in our NYC factory.
