💥 Event Announcement 💥

Susan Stryker & Jack Halberstam
in conversation about Stryker’s highly anticipated new book, Changing Gender
Monday, September 21 at 7pm
at the Bureau in Manhattan

Free to attend. Please RSVP at the link in our bio.

After the conversation, Susan and Jack will sign copies of their books. We will also have plenty of copies of Jack’s new book, Anarchitecture After Everything: A Trans Manifesto, available.

💥 ⚡️ 💥

What are we talking about when we talk about gender? Where did the concept itself come from, and where might it go? In Changing Gender, the leading trans scholar Susan Stryker invites readers to ride along on her lifelong quest to uncover what gender means and does. Stryker finds surprising places to tune in to the origins, idiosyncrasies, and generative possibilities of the gender concept. Along the way, she weaves stories drawn from her lifetime as a pathbreaking historian, filmmaker, activist, and founding figure of transgender studies.

We’re thrilled to welcome Susan to New York to talk about this phenomenal new work. Join us at the Bureau to learn, share ideas, and ask questions of Susan and Jack. This is an event not to be missed!

Big things happening at the Bureau Cafe today! You may have noticed our colorful new sidewalk sign outside. Today, we’ve added our name to the wall

These things may seem like a small and normal part of doing business, but to us, they’re huge milestones. We could not have done any of this - we could not have afforded the materials, labor, and staff creativity to do this - without your support.

Thank you for making the Bureau’s long dream of having a coffee shop a reality. Thank you for supporting the GoFundMe and giving BGSQD this extended life. We’re so happy to be here!

🔥 August Events at the Bureau 🔥

Our events this month are already rolling. We’ve talked about aliens and life in other planets with Seven Rasmussen, and celebrated the upcoming premier of the play, Lilith.

There’s plenty more to come. We have authors talking about Black q***r placemaking; the work and life of Vincent Price; and how to build a liberated world. We also have a brand new book club this month: the Fatspo Pod Book Club.

Note that our previously announced event with Barbara Carrellas and Kate Bernstein has been postponed for the author’s personal reasons. We’re working on a new date and will announce it soon.

All events are free and open to the public. For more information and to RSVP, please visit www.bgsqd.com/event. Registering for events in advance helps us plan set-up and staffing. If you don’t RSVP, it’s okay, you can still come to the event!

Looking forward to seeing you around the bookstore soon.

❤️‍🔥 Q***r Erotica Writing Workshop
- 5 Sessions - August & September
- $15 per session ($50 for all five)
- No one turned away for lack of funds
- Meets in person at the Bureau

🔥 💦 🔥

Do you have fantasies, desires, an over-active imagination? Have you ever wanted to put some of that into a short story? Do you like reading erotica, and ever thought, “Yeah, I could do that!”

Then grab pen & paper (or a laptop), and let´s sweat it out together on the page.

BGSQD and Hive Mind Books invite writers of all levels and backgrounds to join author Christian Pan in a Q***r Erotica Writing Workshop held at the Bureau in Manhattan.

🔥 💦 🔥

Over the course of 5 in-person sessions, this workshop will provide prompts, tools, readings, and discussion of how each of us can bring our erotic story to life.

We´ll talk character, dialogue, place, and ways to activate the senses. We´ll read excerpts from other people´s work, and welcome you to submit excerpts to be workshopped by the class. We will try to get you as close as possible to finishing a draft of that story by the end of the workshop.

⚡️ Book Launch ⚡️
The Book of Ecstasy
Barbara Carrellas & Kate Bornstein
Thursday, August 13 7pm

💓 ⚡️

Join us at the Bureau in Manhattan for a conversation about opening up our erotic energy with author Barbara Carrellas and her partner, q***r icon Kate Bornstein, to celebrate the launch of Barbara’s new book.

After the conversation there will be time for Barbara to sign copies of The Book of Ecstasy, which will be available for purchase at the Bureau!

This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP at www.bgsqd.com or via the link in our bio.

⚡️ 💓

Blending practical tools, spirituality, and decades of embodied experience, The Book of Ecstasy offers a fiercely inclusive and radically affirming path to ecstasy—for every body, in every season of life. Ecstasy is a deeply personal and accessible experience of joy, aliveness, and connection—not something reserved for mystics or perfect bodies, but available to anyone willing to listen to their own truth. This is a book for anyone who has ever felt left out of mainstream conversations about s*x, pleasure, or identity—especially those seeking “something more” beyond the norm.

🟪 Ambient Reading Night 🟨
This Thursday 7/30 at 7pm
at The Bureau
Free to attend. RSVP 🔗 in bio

🟧

Turn some pages with us while we turn down the vibe for a chill night of quiet reading at the q***r bookstore.

Join us for an hour of quiet solo reading time set to low key, q***r ambient music. We’ll shift the energy in the Bureau with calm lighting and relaxing vibes. (Don’t worry, it won’t be too dark to read.) Let this be a way to wind down after work.

Bring your own book or find one on our bookshelves. All books are 10% off for those who participate.

Padded folding chairs and a few small tables will be provided. Yoga mats and pillows are welcome. After we read, there will be time for people to share what they’re reading, though this socializing is not required. This night is hosted by Bureau booksellers and music lovers.

Free to attend, but please RSVP so we know what to expect.
