“The 24 hour Economic Blackout”
As the first initial act, we, the people, turn off the economy.
For one day we show them who really holds the power.
-------WE THE PEOPLE--------

WHEN:
Friday February 28th
from
12:00 AM to 11:59 PM

WHAT NOT TO DO:
Do not make any purchases
Do not shop online, or in-store
No Amazon, No Walmart, No Best Buy
Nowhere!
Do not spend money on:
Fast Food
Gas
Major Retailers
Do not use Credit or Debit Cards for non-essential spending

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Only buy essentials of absolute necessity
(Food, Medicine, Emergency Supplies)
If you must spend, ONLY support small, local businesses.

SPREAD THE MESSAGE
Talk about it, post about it, and document your actions that day!

WHY THIS MATTERS!
Corporations and banks only care about their bottom line.
If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message.
If they don't listen (they won’t) we make the next blackout longer (We will)
This is the first action.
This is how we make history.

February 28th, 2025
The 24 hour Economic Black Out Begins

Stay home, take the day off, buy nothing.
We can make a difference.

Welcome HipSilvers, to 2025. Donald Trump received the majority of the votes to be elected into office and today is his inauguration day. Half the population is jubilant, and the other half is in despair. Upon reflection, two quotes came to me over the holidays that I think describe the situation quite well. “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars” by Oscar Wilde and a Turkish Proverb; “When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn’t become a king. The palace becomes a circus.”
Hang on to your hats everyone – this is going to be an interesting ride.

A treasured friend at the American Indian College Fund, recently shared some interesting information regarding Native American Veterans, and we in turn wanted to share it with all you HipSilvers, on this day of honoring all our courageous veterans.

*************

Recently it sometimes feels like Patriotism is something to hide or be ashamed of in the US. Then I remember our Native American veterans who have demonstrated their patriotism while not losing sight of who they are and the Native Nations they belong to.

Approximately 19% of Native Americans have served in the US military, which is higher than the 14% average across all other ethnicities. It was interesting to learn that almost 20% of all Native American service members are women, compared to the approximately 15% of all other service members who are women.

The College Fund has scholarships and programs that specifically support Native American students who are also veterans. Below are two blogs by two veteran students who were awarded program funds and are working to make a difference in their Native communities. Hoping you find them as inspiring as I did.

This story has long been one of my favorites to share with the young people in my life… Now, after this past election, it appears it is also a story for all Americans. We are all the wolves of America, and we all have choices. May GOOD prevail. Onward and upward.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two Wolves
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a
battle that goes on inside people.
He said, “My son, the battle is between two
‘wolves’ inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealously, sorrow, regret,
greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies,
false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,
kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his Grandfather,
“Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
This has to stop - and NOW.
Mortified and in tears, I watched the news last night and saw the 45th mass murder that has taken place this year in America.
Gun control in this country is desperately needed, and immediately.
I was blessed to have a father who taught me how to safely use a shotgun at age 13, and the delight of my young life was being allowed to go hunting with he and his buddies, which I did until my mid twenties, when he took me to his gun club.
We went into the field with his labrador retriever. The dog scouted out a pheasant hiding under a bush. My dad kicked at it, so we could shoot it in flight. It wouldn’t move. It was too terrified. At that point I put my gun down and never picked it up again.
Very few people murdered one another in cold blood in those days, except criminals.
Now we have children killing each other because they have access to guns.
Parents are responsible for their children’s actions.
Thank heavens the courts are beginning to hold them both accountable.
In this post, our Contributor, Cynthia Adler, has composed a wonderful piece about gun control.
Please, stay safe out there.
Indian Country lost a Cultural Warrior recently when N. Scott Momaday left his body, and I lost a treasured friend and early champion of the American Indian College Fund.
He was there when the American Indian Higher Education Consortium’s Cultural Learning Center Initiative was launched, and 29 Cultural Centers were built on tribal college campuses in 12 states. In the first few minutes of the attached link is Scott’s introduction to the project, speaking about the importance of cultural preservation.
What a difference he made on this life walk, and how blessed we are to have experienced this national treasure.
