“Middlesex reads like a Greek myth of old, which might sound strange for a book written in 2003, until Eugenides takes you on an empathetic and sprawling odyssey of protagonist Cal’s understanding of his family, the immigrant experience, and his own metamorphosis, to rival that of Ovid and Homer. Prepare to be changed from the inside out.” - Sofia, Bookseller

“A writer out of loneliness is trying to communicate like a distant star sending signals. He isn’t telling or teaching or ordering. Rather he seeks to establish a relationship of meaning, of feeling, of observing. We are lonesome animals. We spend all life trying to be less lonesome.” — John Steinbeck, In Awe of Words
