NEW IN: The Kala Bag made in collaboration with Kala Raksha, celebrating the people & the crafts specific to Kutch region.

Each bag will have its own unique embroidery style to honor the creative expression of the female artisans.

Fell in love with the artisans and their devotion to craft and community during my trip with THREAD CARAVAN , and spontaneously created a small, special collection with them. And here we are — beaded bags made in collaboration with Kala Raksha.

Kala Raksha is a grassroots social enterprise dedicated to supporting female artisans in Kutch. Each bag is made by women from two communities: the Maru Meghwal, a pastoral community specializing in beadwork, and the Rabari, an Indigenous nomadic community specializing in mirror embroidery.

Each piece takes around two days of handwork. For these women, embroidery is like developing their own handwriting — unique in its expression.

It also comes with a dusk bag, handmade by women who make a living upcycling old sarees into bags.

As modernization has made it increasingly difficult for these women to sustain their traditional trade, we wanted to find a way to support their craft and livelihood. We partnered with United Artisans of Kutch to help keep this beautiful practice alive.
