By the end of September, you can feel the season changing in the flowers.

The palettes deepen. Branches become more prominent. Texture becomes a little richer. And candlelight starts playing a bigger role as the evenings arrive earlier.

We love this point in the year, when summer has not completely disappeared but fall has clearly entered the room.

There is a reason white flowers never feel tired.

The palette may be restrained, but the flowers do not have to be. Roses, hydrangea, orchids, and smaller blooms each bring a different shape and texture to the arrangement.

Add candlelight and a little greenery, and white becomes anything but simple.

Can you see across the table? Does the arrangement feel substantial without taking over? What does it look like once everyone is seated?

A centerpiece has to photograph beautifully, but it also has to work for the people actually sitting around it.
