25 years ago, I was living in Spanish Harlem—102nd between Third and Lexington—fresh out of high school and getting ready to head downtown to work at Ballet Academy East on the Upper East Side to start the school year when the world changed.

I still remember my roommate calling from downtown, hysterical, telling me what she was seeing and telling me not to leave the apartment. I remember watching Katie Couric and Matt Lauer on the Today Show on my little TV with antennas until service disappeared. Then the phones went. Even my landline.

My family was desperately trying to reach me, eventually getting a message through my local precinct #23 that I was okay.

I remember the fear and the complete uncertainty of that day. But I also remember New Yorkers taking care of one another.

That week some of gathered whatever we could at Gristedes market on 96th street so we could make sandwiches and pack up granola bars, water, supplies—and brought them to the police and fire stations in my neighborhood. In the middle of unimaginable sadness, there was this extraordinary sense of community. Nobody wanted to sit alone in an apartment. We wanted to be together, to help somehow, even when none of us really knew what came next.

I went on to spend 20 years living in New York City, but I will never forget that morning or the way the city came together afterward.

25 years later, it still feels impossible that so much time has passed.

Remembering those we lost, the families whose lives changed forever, the first responders who ran toward the unimaginable, and all those who continue to suffer from the aftermath.

September 11, 2001. Never forgotten. 🇺🇸

A LITTLE SEASONAL BOOST 🍊🥕🥬✨

School is back. Work is back. And somehow, the holidays are already right around the corner—which means busier schedules, more gatherings and all those not-so-fun seasonal germs making the rounds.

Can we actually stay ahead of them? Who knows. 😂 But we’re certainly going to try!

We stock up on fresh produce from Country Farm 2 at the Norwalk Green Farmers Market, load everything into our favorite juicer, Inventor of the Slow Juicer and make enough juice for about three days at a time.

Honestly, almost anything you put in there tastes delicious. There’s no perfect recipe—just use what you love and add plenty of fresh ginger, turmeric and herbs for a little extra seasonal support. 🌿

The best summer dinners start with whatever is fresh. 🍑🌿

*Save this reel for your next farmers market haul!*

I cannot get enough of fresh peaches 🍑 this time of year, so naturally I’m finding every possible way to use them—including in this simple gluten-free crostini.

The GF sourdough from The Sour Duck Bakery and the juiciest peaches from Country Farm 2 at the Norwalk Green Farmers Market made the perfect combination. I love these as a quick dinner, but you can also make them smaller for mini bites, appetizers or easy summer entertaining.

You’ll need:

– Homemade GF or regular sourdough bread
– Ripe peaches
– Fresh tomato
– Fresh mozzarella
– Minced garlic
– Basil or pesto
– Olive oil
– Balsamic vinaigrette
– Maldon salt

Toast the bread until crispy and drizzle lightly with olive oil. Add the minced garlic and return it to the oven until fragrant. Top with mozzarella and bake again until warm and melty. Finish with fresh tomato, peach and basil, then drizzle with olive oil and balsamic and add a sprinkle of Maldon salt.

If you can grill your peach slices first, even better—the caramelization adds so much flavor!

Once peach season ends, have fun with this and make this recipe your own with whatever is fresh. Try figs, thinly sliced apples or grilled zucchini, and switch up the herbs to complement your ingredients. Basil or pesto works beautifully with zucchini, while thyme, rosemary or honey would be delicious with apples or figs.

Fresh, seasonal and endlessly adaptable.

A little full-circle moment. Ben and I went to The Galley at NCM Norwalk Cove Marina this past weekend for the vendor pop-up, specifically to try the gluten-free sourdough from The Sour Duck Bakery —and discovered it was started by my yoga friend Donna’s daughter!

Bringing home the gluten-free sourdough inspired the quickest little summer dinner. I used the farmers market ingredients I already had on hand—including the juiciest peaches from the Norwalk Green Farmers Market, Country Farm 2—along with fresh tomato, local CT mozzarella, garlic and basil to make tasty, toasty crostini. I finished them off with olive oil and a drizzle of strawberry balsamic. 🍑🌿

Fresh, summery and absolutely delicious!

Birthday kickoff with some of my favorite Connecticut people last night at . 🌊

My Connecticut friends know how to show up—even when the weather’s a little iffy every August!

We stuck it out, danced through the rain, laughed a lot, and had the best time… until Mother Nature officially cut the night short. 🌧️ We never did get our “Piano Man,” but I guess that just gives us another reason to keep the tradition going. band we’ll be back next year! 🎹🎶

The perfect way to kick off birthday week. 🥂✨

Just sitting here relaxing, sipping on the birthday cocktail Grant Spaeth whipped up for me. 🍉🌿 He doesn’t mess around when it comes to cocktails. His watermelon mint mojito was absolutely delicious and such a thoughtful little birthday surprise. Basically, summer deliciousness in a cup. 🍉🥂 steph

Part 3 ✨ Beautiful Life Series

🌿 I truly believe flowers are about so much more than pretty blooms. They’re about texture, fragrance, color, movement, and a touch of whimsy—creating a home that feels good to live in. ➡️

And if you ever happen to spot me wandering the flower aisle in Darien, Westport, or anywhere around Fairfield County, come say hi! I’m always happy to chat flowers, and if you have a question, I’ll gladly help if I know the answer. 🤍

After all, beauty is even better when it’s shared.
