FYI – News briefs & announcements – June 17
Don’t burn anything
Homer Electric Association responded to a power outage Monday afternoon in the Diamond Ridge and Old Sterling Highway area. The outage started at 2:37 p.m. and affected 638 HEA members.
The cause of the outage was a failed insulator on power pole. The failure of the insulator caused a small fire at the bottom of the pole. HEA crews were able to contain the fire until the Division of Forestry and the Anchor Point Fire Department arrived on the scene.
The fire did not spread beyond the immediate vicinity, and HEA crews had power fully restored by 3:45 p.m.

FYI: Hillary Clinton Had a Front-Pew Seat at Donald Trump's Wedding

Donald Trump has built stunning high-rises and golf courses, starred in his own reality television show and made billions. He did something Tuesday evening in Iowa that he's threatened to do many times before but never actually done: actively campaigned for the American presidency.

It was classic Trump, as he showcased his business success and what he described as his instinctive ability to predict the future. He also showed an eagerness to criticize his fellow Republicans running for president.

LA Getting Its First Year-Round Whale Watching Service

People give Los Angeles a hard time for its supposed lack of seasons, but they totally ignore the limited scope of things around here that definitely do have a season. One of those activities is whale watching. Right now, there's a time for that, and it's what the Pacific gray whale calls "winter" (December through May). Dan Salas, the owner of Long Beach-based whale watching company Harbor Breeze Cruises, is hoping to create the first year-round service, leaving out of San Pedro and called Los Angeles Whale Watch, the Daily Breeze reports. Salas says that lots of different whales (blue whales, fin whales) have been showing up more prominently in the waters off the LA coast all year round, so why not have people come to see them? He's just gotten the first new boat permit issued at the Port of Los Angeles in decades and started trips this past weekend (it's now June, FYI).

FYI sets premiere for “Seven Year Switch"
The 8 x 60-minute Kinetic Content-produced series documents the two-week journey of four couples participating in experimental “switch therapy” to determine whether they have chosen the correct life partner. Relationship experts will be on hand to help guide the couples through the adjustments of living with a “new” spouse.

Slated for a July 7 two-hour premiere at 9 p.m., the series opener will introduce the four couples to viewers and expose the stories of each relationship’s beginnings, how their marriages began to sour and why they’re willing to risk everything to save them. At the end of the month-long experiment, each couple is to reunite and decide whether to stay together and renew their vows or part ways and divorce.

Lost your phone? Here's how to find it
JUST GOOGLE IT

If you have an Android phone with Android Device Manager, it's as easy as Googling "find my phone." Google will pull up a map and give you the option to ring, lock or erase it. Erasing is kind of drastic, so you might want to start with locking it remotely, then using the map to find it. If you're not having any luck with that or too much time has passed, you can wipe your phone remotely and reset it to factory settings, so whoever has it can't access any of your apps or information. FYI: After you reset your phone, this "find my phone" function won't work anymore — so use it as a last resort.

FYI PHILLY: THE PORCH

30th Street is Amtrak's 3rd busiest train station nationwide with millions of riders passing through each year.

Prema Katari Gupta, Dir of Planning & Economic Development, University City District said, "For a lot of people, myself included, this is their first impression of Philadelphia."

And that first impression used to be a concrete parking lot.

"We wanted to be colorful and lively and bright and fun, the way Philadelphia is now," said Gupta.

FYI PHILLY: CECIL CREEK FARM DINING
FYI Philly went to visit a farm in Gloucester County, New Jersey that offers customers a unique way to dine.

Megan Bumbernick bought the forty-two acre Cecil Creek Farm a year ago with her husband Bill.

By day, they sell produce in their market and at night, the place transforms into a restaurant.

Megan grew up right across the street from the farm.

"It's on a farm, you're in our market, you're having the full experience of of a true farm to table," said owner, Bill Bumbernick.

FYI: Buzz Bissinger Wrote The Caitlyn Jenner Vanity Fair Piece That Is Currently Breaking The Internet
Jenner tells Bissinger about how she suffered a panic attack the day after undergoing 10-hour facial-feminization surgery on March 15—a procedure she believed would take 5 hours. (Bissinger reveals that Jenner has not had ge***al surgery.) She recalls thinking, “What did I just do? What did I just do to myself?” A counselor from the Los Angeles Gender Center came to the house so Jenner could talk to a professional, and assured her that such reactions were often induced by pain medication, and that second-guessing was human and temporary.

Jenner tells Bissinger the thought has since passed and not come back: “If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life. You never dealt with yourself,’ and I don’t want that to happen.”

FYI WIRZ: NASCAR's Chase Race Gets Halfway at Monster Dover
It’s called the Monster Mile, Dover International Speedway, for a good reason. It’s steep configuration, nothing like a normal mile that any of us walk or drive routinely, often bashes hasty moves from stock car drivers.

The intimidating one-mile concrete oval has 24-degree banking in the corners and nine-degree banking on the straightaways.

FYI briefs: Dell server shipments up, disaster assistance, more
Worldwide server shipments grew 13 percent in the first quarter and Dell Inc. held onto its position as the No. 2 server maker in the world, according to new numbers.

Dell shipped more than 507,000 servers in the first quarter, up 9.3 percent from the previous year, according to tech researcher Gartner. Its market share dipped, though, from 19.7 to 19 percent in that same period, putting it just behind Hewlett-Packard, which shipped more than 534,000 servers for 20 percent market share.
