One of our favorite design teams to work with are the progressive and talented designers at ML Group Design + Development. Based in Stokie, Illinois - ML Group have a vast amount of expertise and experience within multiple commercial design spaces such as Residential, Senior Living, Healthcare and Office Spaces.

ML Group is a core partner in the development process - from concept to completion. They have a dynamic team of architects, project managers, construction professionals and interior designers - they are a one-stop-shop for any project.

What do we love the most, beside the fact they are fun to work with? Their bold, and colorful view on interiors! Hi Barbie! Hi Ken! Hi Barbie!!! Have you seen the movie yet?

With the new release of the much anticipated Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrara and Will Ferrell we have been dreaming of all things PINK! Of course, at Coral Fabrics we have a multitude of pink textiles for you to choose from but lets take at look at some incredible office spaces for the modern, independent, career woman Barbie. In the movie, Capitol Hill was run by women in pastel tweed Chanel suits.

Barbiecore is the hottest trend, which is a logical progression considering the color of the year from is Viva Magenta! The pink trend is now expanding to shades of bubblegum, blossom, shocking pink, mixed with soft baby pinks and chic blush. Let’s also be clear; pink is not just for the ladies! We did some trend spotting at our local movie theater - the Barbie audience was all dressed in pops of pink - including teenage boys with pink shorts or sneakers, Dad’s in pink polos and Moms and daughters head to toe everything pink, you don’t have to be Barbie or Ken to wear it! Even Barbiecore Nike high tops are all the rage.

Pink is here to stay, on trend, and we love how these office spaces utilized this fun and energetic color. Psychologically speaking; pink is uplifting, happy and playful - perfect for office spaces that companies need their employees to be creative thinkers. We also love serene pinks, such as baby pink or pale blush for healthcare spaces. With a feminine and calming color palette these are great choices for medi spas or women’s healthcare providers.

Stylish Seniors!

Age is but a number and these stylish seniors prove it. We love seeing the cultural shift in seniors which impacts the environments we design for the newest generation of seniors. Instagram is flooded with accounts of cool, hip and fashionable seniors! Iris Apfel led the way, with bold senior style, and even trend-setter Anna Wintour is a fabulous ‘senior’.

Photographer Ari Seth Cohen created an incredible collection of photos of older adults with their own unique style. Cohen published a book entitled ‘Advanced Style: Older & Wiser‘. Growing older doesn’t mean a life of beige, and these seniors prove it. Bold color, and fabulous style inspire us!

We set Cohen’s fabulous portraits against our new Design Dynamix 19 Collection, we feel the collection complements the person style of each perfectly!

Not Your Grandma’s Senior Living: How Senior Living Design is prioritizing style.

“As a Gen-Z designer, I sometimes wonder, “What do I know about designing for seniors?” Then I take a step back and realize it’s quite simple; I need to design for myself.” Laura Kreher, a LEED Green Associate & Designer mused.

In a webinar called “Accelerating Evolution – The Next Generation of Environments for Aging” - it was discussed that “Senior Design is Universal Design, they are not the ‘other’. What they want is close to what YOU want”.
Senior living interior design is being reshaped to meet boomers’ tastes. “Well-traveled, tech-savvy, affluent baby boomers will choose communities that target their goals and dreams and demonstrate flexibility to keep the lifestyle current and interesting, interiors will need to reflect the diversity of this group, and provide a multitude of amenities that offer convenience, challenge and extreme comfort.” Said LuAnn Holec, principal of Thoma-Holec Design.
This takeover of a new generation in the senior living environment will surely invoke change. “They will define senior living design and advocate for their wants.”
It’s time to reshape our perception of senior living. It’s not about designing for the senior living industry but the industry of creating environments for older adults. We must empower this population to continue to grow and thrive; to live meaningful lives.
Today, senior living communities are excited to show that senior living is a far cry from this cookie-cutter or institutional stereotype many have in their minds by creating a more “home-meets-hospitality” type feel. This includes utilizing more luxe and contemporary designs, fabrics and materials that today’s seniors are loving.

Coral Fabrics were thrilled to visit Frankfurt last week for the 2023 Heimtextil Trade Show and exhibition. What a wealth of information, inspiration and thought provoking ideas regarding the future of textiles!

In the Trend Pavilion we were presented with four unique trend stories all with the under arching theme of a shift towards circularity. The 2023/24 Themes were:

Make and Remake - Highlighting ingenious re-use of scrap material. The innovative approach of Make and Remake has an uplifting, artistic and energetic appeal.

Continuous - Celebrating zero-waste, closed-loop production that sees material recycled into new products again and again.

From Earth - Earth-born aesthetics and organic materials are given a new vibrancy with the beautiful color diversity of natural dyes.

Nature Engineered - This story showcases natural organic raw materials with a new utilitarianism twist. Organic materials are processed through mechanical means, redefining the concept of what is natural.
