It’s been 7 weeks now since an electrical fire started in the soffit of our building entrance. We still feel so grateful and fortunate that someone noticed the smoke and called it in, which certainly saved our building, Krohns Appliance, and the other businesses that share this plaza with us. We had an angel watching over us, that’s for sure!

We have been able to continue operating without our showroom, providing repair service and sales through our back entrance/warehouse. While it hasn’t been ideal, and at times a challenge, we are glad we were able to continue operating instead of having to close our doors. Perseverance at its best, and our employees have been amazing, despite the fact that we’ve had a smoky aroma in our work area.

We are excited to share that progress is being made, after a long wait. This week they came in and started removing all of the floors, along with the insulation and ceiling tiles. We aren’t sure of a timeline on when we will have our showroom completely back in operation, but we sure are excited about this update!

Due to having to box up our parts inventory for this part of the restoration, we will be ordering any parts needed for the time being.

We want to thank everybody who has reached out, and those who have continued to support our business during this challenging setback. Krohns Appliance has been in Newberg since 1947, with our 80th anniversary approaching next year. We plan to stay around as long as possible and continue to serve our community with appliance repair and sales.

The fire that damaged the front of Krohn’s Appliance Service inside Hulet Plaza on the night of Aug. 8 came within minutes of spreading into the main body of the building and toward neighboring businesses, according to Krohn’s owner Brian Love.
🧯
No injuries were reported. A caller reported seeing fire and smoke in the eaves of the commercial building in the 2200 block of East Portland Road at 9:31 p.m. Saturday, according to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Corinne Haning.

A little Hump Day Humor

If your dryer quits working and your first thought is, “I bet that thing’ll hold three bags of ice and two cases of beer”... you might be a redneck.

I you hadn't yet heard the new, on the night of Saturday August 8, 2026 our business had a fire in the plaza we are located in.

While there was definitely heavy damage to the front of our building that will require in depth repairs…we are fortunate that aside from smoke the damage to our computers, desks, parts & appliance inventory, etc seems to be minimal. Our storefront is out of commission until further notice, so we won’t be able to accommodate walk in customers as easily.

However we plan to continue to operate our business to the best of our ability. We’ve still got skilled technicians ready to come fix up your appliances, or we can come clean your furnace ducts and/or dryer vents. We also have a small selection of new appliances including Speed Queen, Frigidaire and Electrolux, and access to order pretty much any of their appliances we don’t have in stock! We even have a small selection of refurbished washers, dryers & refrigerators. Best of all - we service what we sell! You can still call us at 503-538-3613, or visit our website at www.krohnsappliance.com to send us a message.

Thank you again to the men & women who rushed to get the fire out that night, including moving our appliances to avoid damaging them. Especially to the good samiritan who called the fire in - without your quick action this could have been a much more devastating outcome for us and our neighboring businesses.

This fire is a setback, no doubt…but Krohn’s Appliance Service will rise from the ashes!

We’ve had many people ask how they can help us…and to be honest the biggest help right now is supporting this small business by shopping local and encouraging others to do so as well. We know that is a big ask in this economy as it’s hard to compete with the box stores & internet.

Krohn’s Appliance isn’t just another business that popped up, we’ve been around since 1947. It started with the Krohn family as Krohn’s Appliance, then Brian’s step father Carl Freeman bought it from them in 1969 and changed the name to Krohn’s Appliance Center and finally Brian purchased in in 2001 making the most recent name change to Krohn’s Appliance Service. We’ve continued the legacy of great customer service that the Krohn family created, while keeping our business afloat during some of the most challenging economic times. We’ve seen many other small appliance repair shops slowly retire or close up shop, but we have no plans of going anywhere! We love our community too much to do that. ♥️

When you choose to shop local, you are supporting more than just the owner. You’re supporting the growing families of their employees keeping that money within the community, you’re supporting the local youth groups and youth sports that they sponsor, you’re supporting the local festivals and fundraisers they sponsor every year, you’re supporting the many charities they give back to that helps their community, you’re supporting the other small businesses they choose to use over the larger chains, you’re even keeping the taxes local to benefit your community.

Thank you again to the men & women who rushed to get the fire out last night, including moving our appliances to avoid damaging them.

Tonight was a scary night for us and our neighbors within Hulet Plaza as we got the call that our building was on fire. Thanks to the quick response from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue the fire was extinguished before the entire building went up in flames. The extent of the damage isn’t fully known yet, but the fire itself stayed contained to the entrance above Krohn’s.

While this is a devastating blow to our small business, as well as our neighbors within the building…we are so very thankful that nobody was hurt. Everything else is replaceable. ♥️

We truly appreciate all of the men and women who showed up to help knock this fire down before it grew bigger than it did.

Thank you to everyone who reached out in concern. We are exhausted, but safe & sound.

Today some of the Krohn’s team went up to Marcone Supply for the open house at their new Vancouver warehouse. Marcone is one of the companies we use to order parts from, and this new larger warehouse will make them able to stock even more than before.
