This week we're featuring Seymchan, a remarkable stony-iron meteorite discovered in June 1967 in Russia's Magadan Oblast.

Our featured specimen weighs 14.5 grams and showcases a fascinating mix of octahedrite metal and pallasite (olivine) crystals. Seymchan is especially unique because it belongs to the Main Group pallasites while also having an unusually high iron content. Before its pallasitic structure was discovered, it was classified as an anomalous coarse octahedrite.

One of Seymchan's most interesting characteristics is its heterogeneous structure—some specimens contain beautiful translucent olivine crystals, while others consist entirely of metallic iron-nickel. It's also well known among collectors for being a stable, rust-resistant pallasite, making it both scientifically significant and highly collectible.

Discovered as part of a total known weight of approximately 380 kilograms, Seymchan continues to captivate collectors and researchers alike with its rare combination of metal and crystal.
