Hi Everyone,

Firstly, we were overwhelmed with gratitude at the outpouring of love and support, as well as various other expressions, we received when announcing the decommissioning of the Oregon Undersea Gardens.

We realized our place in history and the culmination of this was realizing also how very fortunate we are to be located and to live in a community committed to the protection and preservation of our oceans and the life within. It was a wonderful experience working with professionals from the Oregon Coast aquarium as well as the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Oregon State University to assure the proper treatment and correct handling of our fish. Their guidance and assistance assured this sensitive event was handled with the utmost respect for vertebrates and invertebrates alike.

Our sturgeon both turned out to be green sturgeon, a species currently listed as Threatened on the Endangered Species List. We are excited they thrived for over 45 years in our aquarium and that they can still be enjoyed in their majestic state at the Oregon Coast Aquariums Halibut Flats exhibit. Our beautiful and rare yellow grass rockfish many of you will remember as well as the dogfish sharks are also on display now in the aquarium. Most of our perch and rockfish were healthy and were released into their natural habitat.

It was a wonderful finish to a wonderful adventure; we are grateful we all experienced it together. Please look for our memorial display after our remodel of Ripley's, Believe It or Not and our Louis Tussaud Wax Museum. We hope to have fun facts and artifacts on display in the future to stand as a legacy to the heart and the history of the Oregon Undersea Gardens. See you in the spring!

Hi Everyone,

It has been overwhelming the excitement, in all directions, at the news of the closing of Oregon Undersea Gardens. We have read many, if not all, of your posts and we thank you all for your passion be it positive or not. We would like to clear up a few things as questions have been asked.

We are closing mostly for three reasons. 1) The boat has been in the water since 1966. 50+ years is a long time for any boat and it has taken its toll on this one as well. 2) Fishing regulations has greatly altered our ability to acquire native Oregon Coast species. 3) The actual property that our boat is anchored has been purchased and the new owner has magnificent plans for that space.

Please know that we are working with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Coast Aquarium and various other fish pathologists, etc. to assure that all living creatures are treated properly and with the utmost respect. Everyone will find a home.

52 years is a very long time and we all share like memories that will never go away...but alas this vessel must.

Please note that Google hours of operation online are incorrect.

We will be open to the public today through Saturday and we are open from 11-4.

Thank You, The Crew

Hi Everyone,

It is with gratitude for the 46 years of support that we have had from locals and visitors to Newport's Historic Bayfront that we announce the closure of Oregon Undersea Gardens.

For more than 46 years, the Oregon Undersea Gardens provided unique insight and education to children and the public about our undersea world. It has been a great journey, but it is time to move on.

The last day to view the dive show will be September 2, 2019, however, the public is welcome to come down to view and say goodbye to the aquarium between the 3rd and the 8th of September at no charge. This closure aligns with the company’s commencement of a renovation to the Ripley’s, Believe it or Not! and Wax Works attractions. Merchandise related to the attractions will continue to be sold through the Undersea Gardens gift shop until the 11th of October.

Stay tuned for exciting news about the entirely new Ripley's, Believe it or Not! and updated Wax Works attractions!

Gratefully, The "Crew"

Officials Warn Stay Off All Oregon Coast Beaches Thursday - Some places normally safe to watch storms are likely not a good idea

01/18/2018

Hello coastal visitors! We're so happy that you could be in Newport during our beautiful coastal storm season. While your visiting we hope that you keep a few things in mind when enjoying our attractions, beaches, or traveling home;
•Leave Early- weather conditions cause road hazards
•Drive cautious
•Plan on rain and being exposed to wind gusts
•Watch for ocean swells, sneaker waves, and unpredictable ocean tides
•Do NOT go past caution signs and no trespassing signs, these are posted for your safety.
•Stay off of rocks and logs on beaches- you can easily become trapped or swept out to sea.

We hope you keep these tips in mind while visiting this weekend and, that you stay safe!
