A normal day for Rachelle begins by unlocking the gate.
From there, she opens the outside buildings, turns on the fans, lights and music, heads to the morning meeting, turns on the open signs and gets the day moving.
She helps guests write tickets, loads sold items, unloads donations, moves sold merchandise to the shed, processes donations during downtime and stages the ReStore so things look less like several unrelated living rooms collided at highway speed.
And then there are donation pickups.
That means heading out in the truck, getting furniture and other donations safely loaded, bringing everything back, unloading it again and somehow returning to the yard like moving a sectional, a dining table and somebody’s grandmother’s china cabinet before lunch was a completely ordinary Tuesday.
A lot of her day is also spent answering questions and helping customers figure out what needs a ticket, where something goes and what happens next.
The part people may not realize she does quite as much? Staging.
Because Rachelle is usually seen outside in the yard, quietly moving approximately half the county from one location to another and somehow making it look like all of it had a plan.
At 3:30, the gate closes and projects start wrapping up.
At 3:45, closing begins.
Things get cleaned, reset and put back where they belong so the next morning can begin with a fresh assortment of furniture, donations and logistical decisions nobody could possibly have predicted the day before.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, o Rachelle also added driving the donation truck to the list.
There must have been a blank line.
