After a summer hiatus our weekly w**e tastings are back!
This weekend we are heading to California to check out Field Recordings W**e Company!
The personal catalog of w**e maker Andrew Jones' people & places he most values, Andrew used his industry knowledge & friendships developed as a vine nursery field man planning & planting vineyards all over California to find "Diamonds in the Rough" to produce small quantities of unique & soulful from unusual, quiet vineyards.
The Super Gnario is a take on a northwestern Italian classic. A blend of savory Nebbiolo & fruity Barbera. Many w**e snobs will recognize those grapes a the ingredients of a Barolo, however in this case Andrew & the team at Alta Gaviota Vineyard in Santa Barbara produced a much lighter & more approachable table w**e as well as an American spin on an Italian classic.
The aptly named "Shucks" can attribute it's title to 2 things:
1. Being an ideal w**e for Shucking oysters
2. Being the result of a happy accident after planting mislabeled vines
In the mountains above Soledad at the base of Pinnacles National Monument lies the 50 year old La Puesta block of vines. Originally intended to be a block of Pinot Blanc vines, it was eventually discovered that they had mistakenly planted Melon de Bourgogne instead. Rather than rip them up & start over, they just planted Pinot Blanc vines intermixed with the Melon. Being privy to this information, Andrew decided to make something honoring this happy accident, blending the 2 grapes growing together, resulting in a rich, complex offering with plenty of acidity to hold up to oysters, fish & chips, or even a rotisserie chicken.
We will have both of these open tonight & all day tomorrow! Stop in & give them a try!
