85 years ago, Rita Johnson’s parents bought her a Steinway Model M during the Great Depression. Rita still plays that same piano today, a beautiful reminder of how a piano can become part of a family’s story.

More than 85 years after Rita’s parents purchased her Steinway Model M during the Great Depression, Rita Johnson is still making music on the same piano she learned on as a child.

Our connection to Rita’s story began on June 23, 1939, when her parents selected that very piano from our Boston showroom.
More than eight decades later, we had the privilege of sitting down with Rita to reflect on what that instrument has meant to her over the course of a lifetime.
