To the Citizens of Newville,
It is with heartfelt regret that I announce the permanent closing of Big Spring Pharmacy, effective Monday, April 14, 2025.
This decision has not come easily. In recent years, nearly 30% of independent and chain pharmacies across the country have closed their doors. Retail Pharmacies are closing at the rate of ten (10) per day nationwide. The challenges facing community pharmacies are real and growing from severe staffing shortages in retail pharmacy to the ongoing financial pressures created by pharmacy benefit managers. There are times we’ve filled prescriptions knowing they would cost us significantly more than we were reimbursed, simply to ensure our patients got the care they needed. But ultimately, this model is no longer sustainable.
To our loyal customers: Thank you. Your trust, support, and friendship over the years have meant the world to us. We are proud to have served you and your families as part of the Newville community. If possible please pick up your prescriptions Friday, April 11th by 7:00pm.
While Big Spring Pharmacy is closing, we are still here to serve you at Quality Care Pharmacy, located at 1 Sprint Drive, Carlisle, PA.
