When I was a child, my family would take Sunday afternoon drives throughout the countryside of West Virginia. We would often pass farmland that was once a field of corn now abandoned; sometimes a row of houses in disrepair. My mother would always say, "There is beauty in everything." She would tell us to look at the beautiful and resilient wild flowers growing strong in the abandoned field; or she
would point out an inviting swing on someone's front porch. Now, as an adult I get those same feelings when I go to an auction, walk through a flea market, or spot a "leftover" piece of furniture discarded along the roadside. I think to myself, "That used to be new and beautiful and served a purpose for somebody. Now what can I do to give it new life?" That's when Matthew 17:20 came to mind, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, nothing will be impossible for you." Something beautiful could be made from anything no matter how small and no matter what condition it was in!
