if you missed our last evening with deflock nfk, we got you. join us for another evening of learning and discussion as we learn about what flock is - how it tracks and circumvents our rights - and how to engage your local city council member to push for an end to mass surveillance in norfolk.

since our last meeting, we've seen even more cameras pop-up all around and more propaganda from our local city admininstration about how great it is that they can track you anywhere you go throughout the city. bonus! we don't even get to know all the folks that have access to this data and even if we do and they use it poorly, we don't get to speak out about it at city council meetings. so kewl.

don't get it twisted - your ability to not break the law isn't always up to you. don't believe us? let's ask folks currently incarcerated for ma*****na charges while we watch other folks drop cash at a dispensary. or folks who were prosecuted for marrying someone the state deemed illegal. or being born somewhere the state decides isn't cool. or...do we really need to keep going?

we'll be hanging on wed, sept 30, 6p. see ya then.
xoxo

2. a cat holding a knife with the words "be soft, stay sharp"
3. an ice cube with three swords sticking through it in the form of a tarot card with the words "f**k ice"
4. a black cat sitting and looking at the words written next to it, "if cats could talk to cops, they wouldn't"

we're so excited to welcome Princess Joy L Perry and DeAnna Smith for a discussion centering love, freedom, family, and abolition based around Perry's debut novel, This Here is Love.

a beautifully rendered and deeply haunting book, This Here is Love follows three interweaving stories in seventeenth century tidewater through a brutal and honest portrayal of being alive during the early days of america and the system of chattel slavery that built the country. the characters you meet within these pages live wholly and remarkably, embracing love and connection with each choice, in every moment.

we're grateful to be part of the conversation

as folks who get to chat with a lot of you, we know how many brilliant ideas spark in each of your bodyminds constantly so we brought in these lil notebooks to keep handy to try and capture as many generative thoughts as possible.
letterpress is a q***r woman-owned printmaking studio in southwest virginia whose mission is to create safe spaces and solidarity through visibility. Katy Shepard's work is rooted in a deep commitment to liberation through the creative process. as a student, she explored the intersection of art, existentialist ethics and social justice. now, as an artist and printmaker, her work continues to explore identity, community, and the power of art to create meaningful change.

The Flayed Man is a gritty and emotional tale about aging parents, caretaking, and vampires. throughout the book, Chloe Lauter magnifies the responsibilities of taking care of a sick parent with vampirism that causes both Ellis, the main character, and her mother to grow feral if not taken care of. Asking her reader to grapple with how much of oneself can be given away, Lauter delivers an atmospheric and intense novel that is perfect for folks who love a little magical realism in the reads and dream of the deserts of Nevada.
