I completed an overhaul of a Buescher True Tone alto sax. It was a gift from a customers wife to her husband and she wanted it made like new. First thing was complete disassembly, and removal of the (screw type) Norton springs from the body. Rods and springs are kept in order of removal in a wood block. Minor dents were then removed and it was prepared for a trip to the lacquer shop. It came back with a beautiful gold tint to the keys and body. I selected corks and felts and glued them to the keys in the appropriate sizes, then selected a set of pads. This sax used .185 thickness, and I installed metal tone boosters on the pads. Next came padding the sax with shellac not hot glue. Shellac gives you a hard feel while hot glue is a softer feel and it takes much longer to dry. Next was reassembly and regulation. The new corks and felts must be cut to the proper opening height. It’s a lot of work. It’s one of my favorite things to do. The customer was very happy with the sax.

The Prospect Plaza Building or 535 as it’s known was recently sold to the Borough Of North Haledon. They will use it for police headquarters, town hall, and library. Millers Saxophone Shop is not moving anywhere. Our access point is from the lower level rear parking lot just off Brookview drive, found on the right side of the building. The lower level parking is the second left.

This rental customer brought our King Alto back. It needed some minor regulation but the c # key was severely bent. I’m guessing it was dropped or hit in some way. I just took my flat nose pliers and straightened it - also severely and luckily it didn’t break. Plays great again and they didn’t even have to leave it for repair.

Our location : Millers Saxophone Shop has been located in the 535 building - lower level rear - since 1990. We continue to operate at this great location with ample parking.

You will notice changes in the future as approximately 80% of our building has been purchased by the town of North Haledon. Our neighbors will be the North Haledon Police Department, upstairs will be the town hall and library.

To access our music store turn down Brookview Drive (right side of 535) and enter the lower level parking lot by turning in the 2nd left entrance. You will see our signs and window with brands and logos. Park in the lower level and come in to the shop.

Do not park in the upper lot. If you have difficulty call the shop at 973-423-2522 or 973-423-5202 and we will be glad to help.

Picture one is a closeup shot of the two regulation screws on the bar. The small screws have same size cork I punch out of AAAA sheet cork. The corks are glued on with full strength contact cement. I’ve tried different glues and always come back to Weldwood contact cement. I let these corks setup overnight before regulation. Picture two and three are of the same area. The F, F #, and G # must close together with no leaks. With this perfected, bring the upper stack Bb in and regulate.

This is a Selmer AS600L alto sax, back from the lacquer shop. All springs were installed, corks and felts all replaced. A set of pads was picked from our pad cabinet. Pads are sized to fit the pad cup. Tone boosters were installed and then the keys were “padded” with the new pads. Assembly shows the right and left hand sections assembled and seated as well as the low C and D # pads. It was 4 pm and we closed a little early for New Years Eve. This is going to be a nice playing instrument.
