LITERACY TIP: Non-fiction books require the reader to think, ponder and pause...then continue reading to better grasp the concept at hand. Reading non-fiction books helps a child learn how to tackle complex text, which is a skill necessary for all college freshman.

LITERACY TIP:
Cut up squares of paper or use post-it notes and write pairs of opposites on them (like left & right, short & tall) then mix them up and and get your kids to match them up. Stick them to the refrigerator for some fun before dinner.

Did you see this on LIVE with Kelly and Micheal?!!! Quote from Kelly Ripa, "...I think that it should be the law that children read 30 min. at night everyday..."

I don't know about the law (maybe), but I DO THINK parents should do this EVERYNIGHT with their kids and WANT to and not need the extreme of a law.

It's every school kid's dream come true. There's no more homework at a Maryland elementary school.

LITERACY TIP: How to raise a curious reader. Begin reading to your child at birth. Read to your child throughout grade school, and YES! read to your tweens and teens - you'll be surprised how much they (and you) will look forward to it each day.
