Fargesia Scabrida, a cold hardy clumping bamboo. These particular potted plants are size 10 and 15, well rooted out- lush and full and super ready for an instant dense screen in hardiness zones 7-9. This elegant bamboo was collected in 1997 from the mountains of Pingwu county in Sichuan, China at an elevation over 8,500 feet. Imported by Jos van der P***n of Kimmei Nursery in Holland.

Fargesia sp. ‘Scabrida’ has perhaps the most exciting colors of any hardy clumping bamboo: the young culms have dark orange sheaths, opening gradually to reveal steel-blue and lavender culms, aging to an olive green. The leaves are dark green and slender, with a graceful, airy arrangement.

Like F. robusta, it has many desirable qualities: fairly upright habit, vigorous growth, and more sun-tolerant than most other Fargesia. Scabrida makes a great, evergreen privacy screen, growing to about 14 feet. ̇gn

This Fargesia Robusta “Wolong” has been growing for many years out here at the edge of the parking lot at Bamboo Garden. It’s has many rhizome dug off it in order to make new babies, some of which are available. Fargesia robusta ‘Wolong’ has larger leaves than regular F. robusta which lend this clumping bamboo a tropical look. The foliage is a shiny dark green that seems to shimmer in the sunlight. Branch sheaths often have hints of orange and red.

This bamboo, Fargesia Robusta Campbell, was first planted in 2009 here in the Greater Portland Area. It was recently prunned by The Art of Garden Design. This 17 year old grove was started as 7 size 5 plants spaced about 3 feet apart. The grove matured to its full height in 6 years and has been looking fabulous while creating privacy ever since. If you bought bamboo from us and now have a mature grove post your pic in the comments below. Also, check out the progression photos of the Robusta grove on this page: https://www.bamboogarden.com/resource-pages/clumping-bamboo-growth-rate

Its spring so a lot of shipping is happening here at Bamboo Garden. Between the Semi truck, Box truck,
Pallet freight, and UPS (not pictured) we have it covered! Loving how the plants have a Dr. Suess feel as they are packed for the journey.
