I wish more women knew this information.
The New Perimenopause is full of excellent, practical information about what is actually happening in womenâs bodies during perimenopauseâand why so many of the changes we experience canât simply be chalked up to âgetting older.â
Mary Claire Haver covers everything from metabolism, weight distribution, bone health, and sleep to hormones, sexual health, stress, and the often-overlooked ways these changes can affect our relationships and sense of self. I especially appreciated the repeated reminder that many of these changes are biological shifts, not personal failures or evidence that we simply arenât eating well enough, exercising enough, sleeping correctly, or trying hard enough.
Most importantly, this isnât just anecdotal advice. Haver does an excellent job of grounding her recommendations in research, explaining the science in an accessible way, and offering practical information women can actually take into conversations with their healthcare providers.
There is so much about perimenopause that women simply havenât been taught to expect or understand. This book made me think again and again, Why donât we know this?
