Sign up for Summer Jazz Band Camp today! Applications can be filled out at Matt’s Music 🎺

Again this summer, we plan to offer two jazz ensemble groups: one for students playing at NYSSMA solo grades 1-3 and a second group for those who played at grade 4-6. Each group will rehearse throughout the week, then perform in the SHOWCASE CONCERT and the GATEWAY CONCERT.

🎵 Daily Schedule 🎵
By focusing on playing various genres of jazz, we will incorporate, ear training, jazz, improvisation, rhythmic exploration, and more!

Rehearsals are to be at Matt’s Music auditorium. Students will arrive at 9:45 AM. We will rehearse from 10 AM to 12 PM, break for snacks and then play again from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Students must be picked up no later than 1:45 PM. The Showcase Concert starts at 1pm on Friday, August 14th.

Our featured Teacher of the Month for May is Mr. Thaddeus! 🎙️

Thaddeus has been teaching piano, composition/theory, and saxophone at Matt’s Music for one year. His favorite genre of music is new music.

Thaddeus recently helped organise and perform in the Re-Fringe festival in Buffalo, hosting three days of avant garde audio-visual performances in his home in Allentown. His live show includes experimental sampling, electronic music, and saxophone performance in collaboration with other jazz and experimental musicians. He will defend his PhD dissertation in music composition at the University of Sussex this summer titled “Fractured Authorship: Composing the Idiom of the Individual.”

Each month, we host an extraordinary concert series that brings high quality music to life for participants from Intandem and People Inc.'s day habilitation programs. Our concerts are always open, so we are happy to welcome in home school families and neighbors from the community. We provide these concerts as part of our Charitable Foundation mission!

Our concerts are usually led by owners Kathy and Steve Carr, and feature accomplished artists Abdul Qadar on drums, Dave Manth on horns, and the talented keyboard accompaniment of Armani Works.

Our featured student in our Student Spotlight for May is Evey! 🎹

Evey plays the piano and guitar, is 9 years old, and has been taking lessons for about six months at Matt’s Music. Her favorite genres of music are Pop and Musical Theater.

Evey is a third grader and she enjoys flag football, tennis, reading, and writing. She’s also starting saxophone this summer!

We were so excited to present Abby Berroa, 5th grade student of Mr. Burgess at NTI, with her very own, brand new trombone! Due to her exceptional hard work with the trombone and her incredible potential, she was awarded this instrument from the Matt’s Music Charitable Foundation to help further her musical career. Congratulations, Abby! 🎶⭐️

Our featured student in our Student Spotlight for April is Nick Jayme! 🎙️

Nick is a 17 year old voice student, who has been taking lessons at Matt’s Music with Miss Gionna for three years. His favorite genre of music is musical theater.

Nick has performed on the Matt’s Music Vocal Performance Team for two years now. He also recently performed as Seymour in “Little Shop of Horrors” at Grand Island High School. He has performed in musicals and choirs for his entire life, and participates in All State and All County Choirs every year.
