Today, we are mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, whose music, generosity, imagination, and belief in the power of books changed the lives of millions of children.

It’s a strange time for this news to land. We’re just days away from bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to every child under five in Tustin, and this is not how we imagined sharing this news.

At the heart of both organizations is the belief that books should be accessible. A family doesn’t have to qualify based on income; they just sign up, and every month a book arrives at that child’s home with their name on it.

We’re still in shock, honestly. Dolly was a hero of ours because she didn’t just wish the world were kinder, she went and built something that made it kinder.

Her impact will live on forever, and I think the world would be a better place if more of us tried to be a little more like Dolly. Bringing this program to Tustin feels like a way of carrying that forward.

Soon there will be books with the names of Tustin’s youngest readers on them, showing up in mailboxes every month.
We can’t think of a better way to honor her than to keep the work going.

Dolly, we will always love you🤍📚

🇨🇴 TOMORROW, WE’RE DONATING OUR SALES TO COLOMBIA.

In response to the devastating earthquake in Colombia, purchases from Tolima Coffee Co. and Arvida Book Co. tomorrow, Tuesday, August 11, will be donated to Cruz Roja Colombiana (Colombian Red Cross) and Banco de Alimentos de Bogotá to support emergency relief efforts.

As small businesses with South American roots and families, what happens across our continent and to our extended communities always feels close to home. 🇨🇴❤️

That means every book, coffee, sticker, or whatever else you purchase with us tomorrow will help support organizations responding to communities affected by the earthquake.

If you’ve been meaning to stop by, tomorrow is a beautiful day to do it. Come together with us and help send a little love and support from our community to Colombia.

Sales in person and online on Tuesday, August 11th, will be donated to Cruz Roja Colombiana and Banco de Alimentos de Bogotá.

Please share and help us spread the word. 🇨🇴

250 years ago a group of rebels made a declaration. Let’s talk about it 🗣️

Right now, sitting down with your neighbors, reading something together, and having an open talk about it is not a small act. Community can be a form of rebellion and connection a form of revolution.

Starting this month, we are organizing a full read through of the founding documents, opened up through perspectives that have not always been part of that conversation.

We are asking neighbors to read together, sit together, and talk it through over the course of the year.

We will also be hosting speakers and events focused on examining and discussing. If you have a perspective you would like to share, we want to hear it.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY 🙌

Repost from :

THE CHILI IS COMING 🌶️🔥

Did you know the country’s biggest single-day chili cook off is happening right here in Orange County?

This year we are particularly excited because the Tustin Chili Cook Off Fundraising Committee has chosen the OC Book Fair as its fundraising partner!!

That means every ticket sold helps bring the OC Book Fair to life. We are a volunteer-run celebration of reading, storytelling, indie bookstores, authors, kids, families, and book lovers from all across So Cal.

Link in bio to head to our website for the volunteer sign-up!
So come hungry, bring a hat, wear some comfy shoes and let’s celebrate community together!

Arvida After Hours is a new happening created by Joe Donnelly and Sam Dunn, bringing together local authors and musicians inside the bookstore after closing time this Saturday.

Writers reading their work. Musicians doing their thing. Folks wandering among the shelves for conversation and connection. Word has it may even bring his didgeridoo.

We’re so excited to open the doors after hours and share the bookstore in this way, and we hope you can join us this weekend.
