I'm thrilled to learn that a clarinet I just worked on is being played this week alongside Itzhak Perlman in one of his concerts. I guess I must be doing something right.

Fun fact. Did you know that Leblanc clarinets have four rods (screws) for side trill keys -- one for each key. And that Buffet clarinets have only three, with the top two keys sharing a rod. The next time you put your clarinet together take a look.

On my bench today is a Pete Fountain edition Leblanc with remants of gold plating remaining. The plating was so thin and soft, that just the action of the instrument moving around in the case over time was enough to wear it all down.

Welcome to Aubrey Clarinet Services, where I make mouthpieces and repair clarinets for professionals, university students, and enthusiasts. Prior to opening my own shop in, I studied clarinet repair and apprenticed with Bruce Marking, the former Chief Repair Technician for Buffet Crampon USA. I’ve also done intensive study with Bernd Schille at his Clarinet Lab, located in the Baltic State of Latvia.

My mouthpieces come to you in the tradition of the legendary Everett Matson, having studied with one of his most celebrated students.

Professional Bio:

Dr. Jonathan Aubrey holds degrees from the University of Exeter (UK) and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has performed with the United States Air Force Band of New England, the UAE NSO, the Qatar Philharmonic, and with the Aubarra Clarinet Duo in conferences for the International Clarinet Association and the European Clarinet Association. His teachers include Michael Sussman (Orpheus Chamber Orchestra), William Wrzesien (Boston Ballet), Peter Hadcock (Boston Symphony and Boston Pops), Yusef Lateef, Robert Spring, Christopher Hill, and Romie de Guise-Langlois.
