We’re excited to have even more from the beautiful Jane Austen collection in stock. In addition to the Jane Austen Coverlet and center panels, we now have fabrics from the Jane Austen at Home collection, along with bundles of the complete line!
The inspiration behind these fabrics makes them especially wonderful.
Jane Austen’s House in Chawton, Hampshire, was Jane’s home during the extraordinarily productive years when she wrote, revised, and prepared her novels for publication. Today, the house preserves many treasures connected to her life—including her writing table and one particularly special piece of needlework: the patchwork coverlet made by Jane, her sister Cassandra, and their mother.
Technically a coverlet rather than a quilt, it has no layer of wadding. The impressive 91" x 105" piece features a large chintz diamond at its center, surrounded by 232 smaller diamonds with spotted sashing. Its outer border contains more than 2,500 tiny diamonds, all joined with remarkably fine hand stitching. (The Coverlet Kit comes with a unique Border Panel to make reproducing this quilt easier!)
Imagine the hours spent choosing fabrics, cutting those tiny pieces, and stitching them together by hand more than 200 years ago!
The Jane Austen at Home fabrics capture that wonderful historic feeling with delicate florals, birds, scenic motifs, soft blues, warm reds, creams, and period-inspired prints that look right at home in reproduction quilts.
