Well, you treasure hunters were quick today! 😂

Both of today's hidden treasure boxes have officially been found!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has been following the clues, getting outside, exploring our beautiful area and playing along with the Northport Trading Post Treasure Hunt this season.
We have so much fun hiding these boxes and seeing where the clues take you.
Summer may be winding down... but don't put away your treasure-hunting skills just yet.
We may have a few more boxes to sneak out over the next couple of weeks.

Where the river finishes its journey
and boats make their way to the big lake,
choose the quieter shore.

Away from the bustle,
an old tree has kept a secret place inside.

Find the hollow...
and you may find the treasure.

CLUE #2

High above the lake,
where many come for the view,
travel beyond the busiest gathering place.

In the quieter lot behind,
two giants have stood watch for generations.

One of them is guarding
this week's treasure.

Northport Trading Post is working toward our next chapter—the Michigan Geological Discovery Center.

Our vision is to create a permanent place where families, kids, schools, rockhounds and visitors can discover Michigan geology through hands-on learning, rocks and fossils, rock polishing, exhibits, workshops and exploration.

We are currently fundraising to help us take the next major step: acquiring the property that can make this vision possible.

If you've enjoyed our store, learned something from us, taken one of our classes, followed our adventures—or just believe Northern Michigan deserves a place like this—we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

WE’VE BEEN WORKING ON SOMETHING BIG… AND TODAY WE’RE READY TO SHARE IT. Check out our Newspaper article in the Leelanau Enterprise. Out today!

For the past several years, Northport Trading Post has grown into something we never could have imagined when we first opened our doors.
What started as a small family-owned rock and gift shop has become a place where people come to discover, learn, ask questions, hunt for Michigan stones, polish their finds, and experience the incredible geological story beneath our feet.
And now, we’re ready for the next chapter.
Introducing our vision for the
MICHIGAN GEOLOGICAL DISCOVERY CENTER
Our dream is to expand Northport Trading Post into a true Northern Michigan destination centered around geology, education, discovery, conservation, and hands-on experiences.
We envision a place where kids, families, schools, homeschool groups, rockhounds, and visitors can:
• Discover Michigan rocks, minerals, fossils, and geological treasures
• Explore the geological story of Michigan and the Great Lakes
• Learn rock cutting, polishing, tumbling, and lapidary arts
• Participate in hands-on educational experiences and workshops
• Learn about conservation, pollinators, beehives, and our natural environment
• Experience programs designed for schools and homeschool families
• Connect what they find along our shorelines with the millions of years of history that created it
• Leave having learned something they’ll remember and hopefully share with someone else
But before we can build it, we need a place to call home.
We have identified a property here in Northport that we believe can become the future home of this vision.
And today, we are officially beginning our effort to make that happen.

🏴‍☠️🗺️ NORTHPORT TRADING POST TREASURE HUNT! 🗺️🏴‍☠️

We’re Northport Trading Post in Northport, Michigan, and our Treasure Hunt is all about getting you outside, exploring Leelanau County and discovering some places you may have never visited before!
We hide the treasure chests. You decipher the clues and find them!

CLUE #1
We're traveling this time to a place unknown,
At least to most because there is no stone.
Dites fromage may point out the way,
But what it means is for you to display.
Meander along where the timber divides,
With three openings waiting as guides.
Choose one carefully and follow it through,
For something much older is waiting for you.
Where weather was watched and warnings were made,
An old silent watcher still stands in the shade.
And nearby a stone has a story to tell,
A story of service remembered well.
If the stone is wet, then perhaps it has rained...
But weather can sometimes be carefully feigned.
The stone has a message for all eyes to see—
But what lies behind it may hold the key.

CLUE #2
A place you know, a place you've been,
Yet something hidden waits within.
A name above, a tree nearby,
A familiar view beneath the sky.
Don't look beside you, and don't search the ground—
The answer is overhead, where the beams can be found.
