The featured tankard today is a hand drawn sgraffito mermaid and her familiar. I first coat the buff colored cup with white slip that when dry enough to handle allows for “scratch art” of darker lines on a light ground. Joe is the master of this particular technique and it always thrills me to see what his lively inventive mind comes up with on these artistically rendered collaborations. I have included the “in process” photo so you can see how it works.

We were hoping to be out first thing in the morning( the earliest start yet!) and have decided that we will be better off delaying until Friday early morning instead. I have so many house chores that I really want to finish including picking the garden down to let it rest in the slog of heat that is August in Alabama, preserving a bit and leaving my house clean after the chaos of a production cycle/pack down. Leaving hours late is no bueno, so we will just be early the next day 🤩. Pink toe beans for my grateful chance to slow down, be reasonable and cuddle my cheesy boy.
