We are a family business located in beautiful Historic Downtown Northport directly across the river from Downtown Tuscaloosa Alabama. We specialize in Provencal French but also carry Gustavian, Italian, and English antiques. We generally make two buying trips a year in Fall and Spring. We occupy 3 buildings and have roughly 8000 square feet of retail space.Carl Adams grew up in Northport and spent

much of his childhood working with his father in Adams Drugstore in Downtown Northport. He went on to take over the business but always had a passion for furniture construction and antique restoration. In 1973, he made the decision to open Adams Antiques and he traveled to England for his first buying trip.Harriet Adams grew up in Mountain Brooke Alabama and has been around interior design all her life. Her grandfather started the interior design firm Hawkins Israel in 1930. Her father and uncle continued the business where she learned first-hand the ends and outs of the business. She ventured off on her own and in 1980 she opened Hawkins Israel in Downtown Tuscaloosa.Harriet and Carl were married in 1990 moved Hawkins Israel to Downtown Northport. In 1991, she opened the Potager, which in French and translates to kitchen garden. The emphasis was on French Provençal garden décor. However, they were still buying in England but noticed their taste was shifting toward French style. In 1992, they began to venture throughout France cultivating friendships with the local dealers. In 1994, the downtown went through a complete revitalization. They were pivotal players in this transformation into the beautiful downtown we know today. Brandon Cooper, Harriet’s son, has been a part of the businesses since he was a young boy. He started out helping renovate the retail spaces and moved into antique restoration. He came into the businesses full time in 2004 and works in all aspects of the businesses.

Sunday at the shop. 🌿

August always makes me want to bring a little more of the garden inside. Ferns, palms and fresh-cut greenery mixed in with old wood, worn shutters, glass, verdigris and a few favorite finds.

A little wild, a little collected, and just the way I like it.

Happy Sunday from Adams Antiques & The Potager.

Sunday Vignette

Today’s vignette was completely styled (and photographed!) by Mimi.

I just followed her around while she found homes for every fairy, bunny, and gnome. She had a story for each one.

Seeing the shop through five-year-old eyes is a pretty wonderful thing.

Happy Sunday, friends. ❤️

Sunday Vignette 🍐🌿

A little abundance for Sunday.

Warm old wood, stacks of ironstone, garden greens, and a rather extravagant harvest of hand-painted Italian marble fruit tucked in wherever it would fit.

I love the way these pieces bring color and a bit of wit to a collection—mixed among old books, silver, pottery and all the things that have gathered here over time.

Sometimes more really is more.

Happy Sunday from Adams Antiques & The Potager.

Nature’s masterpieces meet centuries of craftsmanship.

Ancient ammonite fossils paired with European antiques, lush greenery, and warm wood tones create a vignette inspired by natural history cabinets of the 18th and 19th centuries. Every piece tells a story millions—or hundreds—of years in the making.

A look behind the layers. Every antique has its place before the room tells its story

A little behind the scenes from this week’s styling. Layering old pieces, shifting things around, and letting the room come together slowly. One of my favorite parts of the process is seeing how each antique changes the feel of the space as it’s added. Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day.
