• 🧏‍♀️ Chickens have ears! They’re just covered by tiny feathers — and the color of their earlobes can even predict the color of their eggs (white lobes = white eggs, red lobes = brown eggs).
• 💡 They feel pain and emotions. Chickens have complex nervous systems and can experience empathy, stress, and comfort — so keeping them happy truly matters.
• 👀 They recognize faces. Chickens can remember up to 100 faces — both human and animal!
• 🥚 They talk to their chicks before they hatch. Mother hens softly cluck to their eggs, and the chicks chirp back!
• 🐾 They dream when they sleep. Chickens experience REM sleep, just like we do.

At just 17 years old, Chip East knew he wanted a career with Alabama Extension serving the people of Alabama. Today, he has proudly served as a commercial horticulture agent for 28 years, delivering research-based support to farmers and agriculture professionals across the region.

One of Chip’s specialties is the cultivation of blueberries, an important and growing crop in Alabama. His work helps producers improve quality, boost yield, and build more profitable operations.
