Year 5 of Memorial Weekend Farm Weekend.

Five years of dirt under our nails, random supply runs, sore backs, sunburns, power tools humming, late-night laughs, projects that escalated way beyond the original plan… and somehow this little dream keeps growing because of the people who keep showing up for it.

When I look back at the early photos compared to now, it honestly stops me in my tracks a bit. What started as “let’s just clean this up a little” has turned into something built with sweat equity, stubbornness, friendship, family, faith, and a whole lot of grit.

Some of you have hauled lumber.
Some planted flowers.
Some moved rocks, tractors, containers, furniture, fences, or your entire bodies into manual labor you probably regretted halfway through. 😂

Some of you simply showed up with food, encouragement, a beer, a hug, or the exact right words at the right time.

And every single bit of it mattered.
Tomorrow we kick off another big one — the greenhouse build. A project that feels symbolic in so many ways. Growth. Patience. Vision. Chaos. Probably a few missing bolts. You know… farm things.

My cup is incredibly full heading into Year 5.
Thank you for believing in this place.
Thank you for believing in me.
Thank you for helping turn Wit and Grit into more than a flower farm — into a gathering place built on true grit, love, laughter, and community.
Now let’s go build something beautiful. 💪🏻🔨🌿

There’s something wildly beautiful about friendships that don’t require entertaining.

Just show up. Put on the gloves. Start working. Talk about life somewhere between wheelbarrow loads and sore backs.

Every year my cousin makes the 5 hour drive from Illinois for our annual “farm work weekend” at Wit & Grit. Since the beginning, she’s been right there beside me — getting dirty, moving mountains, listening to my wild ideas, hyping me up when I need it most, and somehow surviving the manual labor bootcamp I unintentionally put everyone through. 😂

This year life shifted plans a little, so instead of Memorial Weekend at the farm… Wit & Grit packed up, loaded the truck, hopped the ferry across the lake, and headed to Illinois.

And let me tell you… we did not come to relax. 😂

In less than 30 hours we:
• moved 21 yards of mulch
• spread 1 yard of rock
• planted 10 hydrangeas
• transplanted 10 hostas
• w**ded the entire front and back yard
• and fully transformed the space

Honestly… I don’t know if we worked harder or laughed harder.

But my favorite part wasn’t even the landscaping.

It was Clark coming outside before school to help me w**d, then asking his mom if he could skip school to keep helping me. It was Blake directing mulch placement like a tiny foreman with full confidence in the operation. It was the late night girl talks that hit somewhere deep in your soul and refill parts of you you didn’t realize were running empty.

That’s the stuff that sticks.

We came home exhausted, sore, filthy, and absolutely fulfilled.

And somewhere between the ferry ride, mulch piles, hydrangeas, sweat, and chaos… I was reminded again that some of the richest things we build in life aren’t businesses or gardens.

They’re people. ♥️🥰

Woke up this morning to a hard lesson in farming. The late frost took out my peonies, the last of my tulips, and my ranunculus.

I’d be lying if I said it didn’t gut me a little. You pour your hands, your time, and your heart into growing something beautiful, and overnight nature reminds you who’s really in charge.

But while I was sitting in that disappointment this morning, my husband reminded me of something we talked about yesterday — a rule from Warren Buffett: for every inconvenience or setback, immediately speak 3 “yeses.”

So here are mine:
Yes — I have the property I need to build this dream.
Yes — I have the resources, relationships, and support to make this farm successful.
Yes — weddings are booking, flowers are selling, and this business is growing.

Some days farming feels romantic. Some days it feels ruthless. Today it felt both.

But I’m incredibly grateful for a husband who knows how to scoop me up when disappointment hits and remind me to keep my eyes on the bigger picture. Frost got the flowers last night… but it didn’t get the dream.

Planting all the varieties of lilacs...so one day, when you visit the farm, you will be greeted with such sweetness you wont want to leave. ♥️
