MAHJONG 101: GETTING STARTED

Tuesday, October 20

If you’ve never played American Mahjong, have only played a time or two, or just want to start again from the beginning, this is your class.

We’ll walk through the tiles, the card, setting up the game, the Charleston, choosing a hand and the flow of play - step by step, with plenty of time to ask questions and actually get your hands on the tiles.

No experience necessary.

Know the basics but don’t always have four people ready to play?

That’s exactly what Open Play is for.

Come on your own. Bring a friend. Stay for a game or settle in for the whole evening. We’ll have the tables ready, the tiles out and a room full of people who came for the same reason you did… to play some Mahjong.

Kim + Nic will be around if a tricky hand comes up or you need a little help with a rule, but otherwise, this time around the table is yours.

Want to squeeze in a quick game? Get really familiar with your card? Or maybe there are only two of you and waiting for two more people just isn’t happening?

Play Siamese.

It’s become one of our favorite ways to turn off work mode, sit down together and add a little friendly competition to the end of the day.

Two players.
Two hands each.
27-ish tiles staring back at you. 😂
And a whole lot of opportunity to see the card differently.

We play it messy style… no walls, no Charleston, no fuss. Just wash the tiles, load up the racks and play.

And apparently, two hands also means double the bragging rights.

Just ask Nic about the 5 cracks. 🤣
