📣 Oaktown Spice Shop x Haitian KO Kitchen is bringing you a Haitian Rice & Spice Workshop!
Experience Haiti through food, culture, and spice with Chef Kerline Ordeus(Kerline Ordeus, MHA - Haitian Food Recipe Developer 🇭🇹🏳️🌈), founder of Chef KO | Haitian Catering & Classes.
Diri Djondjon is a beloved Haitian rice made with djondjon, a dried mushroom prized for the deep, earthy flavor and beautiful dark color it gives the dish.
In this interactive workshop, Chef Kerline will introduce guests to djondjon, share the cultural story behind the dish, and demonstrate how Haitian cooks build layers of flavor using aromatics, epis, herbs, and spices.
Explore the ingredients that give Diri Djondjon its character, learn techniques you can carry into your own kitchen, and see how the dish comes together from mushroom broth to finished rice.
Throughout the evening, guests will have opportunities to interact with the ingredients, ask questions, and experience the aromas and flavors that make Haitian cooking so special.
The workshop will conclude with a tasting of Chef Kerline’s Diri Djondjon and complimentary Haitian bites.
Guests will leave with Chef Kerline’s Djondjon + Haitian Pantry Guide, featuring djondjon, key flavor-building principles, and ideas for recreating the experience at home.
$10 of every ticket is redeemable in store as part of a VIP shopping experience, so you can take home the spices featured in the workshop.
No prior cooking experience is needed; just come curious and ready to taste, learn, and experience Haiti through food.
