Heads up! 💖

Over the next few weeks/months; the store may look a little chaotic while we move sections around and make better use of our space.

We’re expanding the Children’s section to create room for story times, kids craft clubs, readings, and family programming, AND adding a dedicated area for indie authors, signed books, and special editions.

Thanks for bearing with us while we make the store even better! 🙌🤩 -Michelle

OCALA CREATIVES, INSTRUCTORS & PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW TO DO COOL STUFF:

A Novel Idea Bookstore is looking for local people who can come into the bookstore and RUN a class or workshop for our customers.

I can fill the room, market it, handle ticketing, provide the space and help with the event… but I cannot teach people to paint, read tarot cards, knit, play mahjong, tattoo somebody, make pottery or magically acquire talents I absolutely do not possess.

We’re looking for fun, social, beginner-friendly experiences people would actually want to leave the house for.

Think:
Painting / watercolor
knitting / embroidery (Katie Dreier has crochet covered)
Tarot readings or oracle classes
Mahjong (Lisa Rector Ruef
Jewelry / charm workshops
Bookbinding / junk journals / bookish crafts
Calligraphy
Floral workshops
Cookie decorating
Candle making
Permanent jewelry / tattoo pop-ups (Mamasdoodlestattoo Coreena
…and anything else fun, creative or a little unusual.

If you teach something and think our bookstore crowd would LOVE it, message us with what you teach, what you’d charge, what you provide, and how many people you can accommodate.

I want a calendar full of cool s**t for 2027 that I personally have no idea how to do. 😂 - Michelle 💖

It’s almost fall in Florida… if we all agree to ignore the humidity. 😂

And with this dreary Saturday weather, today is basically begging for books + crochet.

🧶 Our Beginner Crochet Class/Club starts at 12 PM today! Come learn, hang out, and meet some fellow bookish crafty people. Plus we will have Shadow Daddy Coffee and Blood Orange Margs! 🍹 (ticketed event)

📚 AND it’s official: ROM-COM SEASON IS HERE and the shelves are stocked. Cute covers, cozy vibes, ridiculous meet-cutes, fall romances… we’ve got ’em.

Come spend your gloomy Saturday with us. 🍁

🌙 ACOTAR 6 MIDNIGHT RELEASE PARTY!!

https://anovelideabooks.com/products/acotar-book-6-pre-order

We are planning a full ACOTAR 6 Midnight Release Party at A Novel Idea and this is NOT just “show up and grab your book.”

We’re talking themed drinks, snacks, trivia, games, photo ops, a costume contest, giveaways, a charm/bracelet station, a temporary tattoo bar, court-themed fun, a giant countdown to midnight, and then BOOKS the second the clock hits 12. ✨🌙

Here’s the plan:

📚 Book Only: $32
Just want the book? Easy. Preorder and pick it up without attending the party starting Tuesday at 10am.

📚 Deluxe Book Box: $39.95
Includes the book, AND an exclusive deluxe book box filled with ACOTAR-themed goodies. Pick up Tuesday starting at 10am.

🌙 Book + Midnight Release Party: $57.95
Includes your copy of ACOTAR 6 + admission to the full midnight party.

✨ Deluxe Book Box + Midnight Release Party: $65.95
Includes the book, party admission, AND an exclusive deluxe book box filled with ACOTAR-themed goodies.

If you already have a ticket to A Night at Velaris, your ACOTAR 6 book is already included AND your Midnight Release Party admission is FREE. 💖

This party will be completely different from Velaris. Velaris is an elegant, immersive night out. The midnight release is going to be loud, chaotic, fandom-filled FUN.

And yes… you must preorder the book through us to attend.

Who’s staying up until midnight with us?! 🤩🤩

We need your opinions!

A Novel Idea is growing, and we’re thinking about what comes NEXT. Before I start spending money 😂, tell me what you actually want:

Extended hours? Would you shop after 5?

Weeknight events? Book clubs, craft nights, author events?

MIDNIGHT RELEASES for the big books you’re dying to get your hands on?

☕ Coffee bar? 🍷 W**e bar?

✨ What signed books, special editions, or indie authors should we stock?

Would you subscribe to a monthly Blind Date With a Book box?

And what are we NOT thinking of?

We’ve been your local indie bookstore for almost 20 years, and we have BIG ideas for what comes next. Now give me yours. 👇 — Michelle 💖💖

WE’RE A FINALIST. 🤩🤩

A Novel Idea has been selected as one of just FOUR finalists for Community Impact of the Year at the Inks & Echoes Convention & Awards!

If you haven’t heard of Inks & Echoes, it’s a celebration of the book community, including authors, readers, creators, narrators, bookish businesses and more. There are a whole bunch of categories on the ballot recognizing the people who make this community so freaking fun.

So go vote for your favorites! (Several Ocala authors are there including Jayke McCall ) And while you’re there… 👀

If this little bookstore has ever helped you find a book you loved, introduced you to an author, given you a place to meet your people, supported something in our community, or just made Ocala a little more bookish, we’d really love your vote for Community Impact of the Year. 🥹

https://surveymars.com/q/TrQU7B1Oh (we’re on page 35)

You can vote once a day through November 1, so apparently we’re going to be annoying about this for an entire month. 😂

19 years. One little indie bookstore. One of FOUR finalists. 💖🫶

My son Chase is always telling me I have “too much muchness.”

I’m not entirely sure what that means, but I’m pretty sure turning a perfectly normal Crochet Club into a Crochet Club with Shadow Daddy iced coffee and Blood Orange Margaritas is exactly what he’s talking about. 😂

We have plenty left from Threshing Day, sooooo… why not?!

⭐️ Crochet Club this Saturday
⭐️ Shadow Daddy Iced Coffee
⭐️ Blood Orange Margaritas

Come crochet. Come hang out. Have a drink. I did convince Katie Dreier to offer a few more seats if you’re interested in joining us! 😂

We’re only looking to work with OCALA makers for this! Wholesale preferred, and we’d LOVE makers who can create custom or exclusive items for us.

If you make something that belongs in a bookstore, DROP YOUR OCALA BUSINESS BELOW! 👇
