Today is the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month! ❤️

I came to this country for the very first time in the summer of 2006. My family and I spent two weeks in Ciudad Juarez and after the last round of interviews we were granted permanent residence cards.

I was so extremely sad to leave my school, my friends, my house and everything I have known in Mexico.

Although I was young, learning a new language and adapting to new traditions was so challenging. I remember my first day of school in Altus and I came home crying because I did not liked it at all. My grandparents really helped me during my fall semester with their encouraging words.

Although my family and I faced so many challenges there were also lots of wins.

I remember when my dad bought his truck and he couldn’t believe it was his.

I remember when my mom became a citizen and she was overjoyed.

I remember when I graduated college and seeing how happy my parents were.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month to all the dreamers that are making their dreams come true.

To all the parents that make so many sacrifices so their children can have a better future

To the families that come here not knowing anything about this country and yet they break barriers

Mother’s Day weekend hasn’t been an easy holiday for the past two years for me and my family. My grandparents both got sick with covid the weekend of Mother’s Day back in 2020. Although I miss them more than anything else in this world I cherish every single memory I have with them.
