HELP CHERYL FINISH HER PROJECT!

At the OKCMQG meeting tonight, Cheryl Strickland told me she is in dire need of more BLUE Crown Royal bags to finish her Crown Royal blue bag quilted bath robe!

I’ll be collecting any bags who are donated and mailing them to Cheryl in Louisiana. So, if you have any blue bags sitting around—or know someone who does—please send them my way!

Let’s help Cheryl out… because otherwise she may have to drink her way through a LOT of Crown Royal just to get enough bags! 😂

Help save Cheryl from unnecessary quilting-induced tipsiness and get those blue bags coming!

HEY QUILTERS… IT’S MEETING TIME!

Put down the rotary cutter (yes, even if you’re almost finished 😉) and join us Monday, September 14 at 6:30 PM at the OSU Extension Office, 2500 NE 63rd St., OKC.

We’ve got a fun night planned:

Local Quilt Shop Spotlight. (Make It Sew- El Reno) — because supporting our local shops keeps the fabric flowing and the quilting community thriving! There WILL be a retail table! 🤑

Sew & Share — bring something you’ve been sewing and show it off!

Modern 9-Patch Challenge — bring your challenge quilt or blocks and let’s see how everyone put their own spin on the pattern. There’s no “wrong” way to make a 9-patch… right?

Come for the quilting, stay for the laughs, inspiration and friends. We’ll see you there! Remember, your first meeting is FREE!

Quilting Wisdom from the Cutting Table:

Take a photo before taking things apart…..
Especially with complicated blocks!
A quick phone picture can save you from staring at 16 pieces wondering which way that triangle was supposed to point.
Please do not ask me how I know….

Three whole days… plenty of time to cut, sew, rip out, sew again, change your mind, and maybe even get a block or two finished!

See you Monday, September 14 at 6:30 PM!
Let’s see what everyone has been up to!

What makes a quilt “modern”?

• Bold graphic design with a strong focal point• High contrast between the grayscale background and vibrant color accents• Effective use of negative space that lets the design breathe• Improvisational, asymmetrical elements that create movement and emotion• A contemporary take on a recognizable image rather than a traditional motif• Quilting that adds texture and dimension without overpowering the design

The fractured iris and colorful tears immediately draw the eye, while the monochromatic background adds drama and depth.

The result is more than a quilt—it’s storytelling through fabric.

Good job, KYLE KAISER!

Hello quilty friends!

The next meeting of the Oklahoma City Modern Quilt Guild is coming up on Monday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Join us at the OSU Extension Office, 2500 NE 63rd St., Oklahoma City, for a fascinating program: How to Make a Digital Memory.

Our presenter, Jared Mayoral, is a former Active Duty Marine, video storyteller, and heritage preservation advocate. Jared will share ways we can capture the stories, skills, inspiration, and love behind our quilts through video.

Imagine gifting a quilt along with a digital memory that tells future generations about the maker, the process, and the meaning behind the stitches. Jared's mission is to help preserve our quilting legacy and create lasting connections between quilts and those who cherish them.

Bring your curiosity and your ideas—we're looking forward to learning how technology can help our quilting stories live on for generations!

Guests are always welcome! Your first meeting is free. If you'd like to continue attending meetings and enjoying all the benefits of our guild, membership is required after your initial visit.

We'd love to see you there!
